THE PRAYER OF THANKS

COLOSSIANS 1:3-14

...and giving joyful thanks to the Father… (NIV)

Colossians 1:12

I invite you to repeat this prayer of thanks today, as we near the end of the year:

“Thank you, Lord, for all you have given me this year

Thank you for the sunny days and clouds so drear

Thank you for the peaceful nights and dark worried hours

Thank you for health and sickness, for pains and joys

Thank you for all you lent me and then asked of me

Thank you, Lord for the friendly smile and friendly hand,

for love,

and for everything beautiful and sweet

For flowers and stars, and the existence of children

and good souls

Thank you for solitude, for work, for problems, and for tears, which all have brought me into a more intimate relationship with you

Thank you for your presence, and for your sacraments

Thank you for letting me live

Thank you for having created me to follow you more nearly

and love you for eternity. Amen.”

“Gracias Señor, por todo lo que en este año me diste

Gracias por los días de sol y los nublados tristes

Gracias por las noches tranquilas y las inquietas horas oscuras

Gracias por la salud y la enfermedad, por las penas y las alegrías

Gracias por todo lo que me prestaste y luego me pediste

Gracias Señor, por la sonrisa amable y la mano amiga,

por el amor,

y por todo lo hermoso y dulce

Por las flores y las estrellas, y la existencia de los niños

y las almas buenas

Gracias por la soledad, por el trabajo, por las dificultades y las lágrimas, por todo lo que me acercó a ti más íntimamente

Gracias por tu presencia, y por tus sacramentos

Gracias por haberme dejado vivir

Gracias por haberme creado para seguirte más de cerca

y amarte durante toda la eternidad. Amén.”
