Thanksgiving Day

BECAUSE YOU WILL BE WITH ME

PSALM 23

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death

I will fear no evil… (NIV)

Psalm 23:4

Today is New Year’s Eve. 2017 has gone by as practically all previous years, in the midst of deep crises. There was the aggression and violence typical of these times, and there were personal problems that caused us to despair. A world increasingly filled with natural and manmade disasters that show that God wants us to lift our eyes to Him. Statistics on destroyed homes are rising. These situations put suffering and pain in our world.

As we close out the year and look ahead to 2018, the Church and Christians cannot be mere spectators, at times with deaf ears, ignoring facts that are important for our faith. A feeling of heartfelt solidarity should make us internalize all these problems deeply. If we can’t do anything else, the most important thing is a spirit of perpetual prayer for the Lord to work his will; this is something very important that God has given us and we Christians have it available. Let us close the year with this thought. This is reflected in the powerful and hopeful message of Psalm 23.

Prayer: Thank you, O Father, for all your blessings in the year that is ending. Give us inspiration and confidence as we face the new year. Amen.

PORQUE TU ESTARÁS CONMIGO

SALMO 23

Aunque ande en valle de sombra o de muerte, no temeré

Salmo 23:4

Hoy es Fin de Año. Ha transcurrido el 2017 como prácticamente todos los años anteriores, en medio de profundas crisis. De una parte la agresividad y violencia que caracteriza los días de estos tiempos;  de la otra, situaciones personales que nos hacen caer en desesperación. Un mundo cada vez más lleno de desastres naturales y no naturales ponen en pleno que Dios quiere que alcemos nuestros ojos a Él. Los hogares destruidos cada vez suman más números en las estadísticas. Situaciones estas que ponen sufrimiento y dolor en este mundo nuestro.

Claro, al finalizar el año y entrar en el 2018, la Iglesia y los cristianos no podemos ser menos espectadores, a veces con oídos sordos y al margen de hechos muy sensibles a nuestra fe. Un sentimiento de sentida solidaridad debe hacer que todos estos acontecimientos profundicen sensiblemente en nuestras vidas; y si no podemos hacer otra cosa, lo más valioso es un espíritu de oración perenne para que el Señor obre con su voluntad,  algo muy importante que Dios nos ha dado y tenemos los cristianos a la mano. Despidamos el año con este sentimiento. De ahí el mensaje poderoso y esperanzador del Salmo 23.

Oración: Gracias Oh Padre, por todas las bendiciones prodigadas por ti en este año que terminó. Danos inspiración y confianza para entrar en el nuevo año. Amén.
