TO BETHLEHEM

LUKE 2:8-20

Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. (NIV)

At this time of year when we especially recall the birth of the Messiah, let us look again at Bethlehem, the village of simple shepherds, and listen to the angels’ chorus: Glory to God in the highest heaven!

It is worthwhile to recall that the Christ child’s only cradle was a manger, and remember that over the centuries God has loved and communicated with the humble. Jesus lived in a carpenter’s home. He was humble and belonged to the humble class. His disciples were shepherds, fishers, and women of low esteem. Something special allowed all these rejected people to become Christ’s followers. They listened to his message, and followed him. There are still those who hear the message receptively and willingly.

We must not forget those persons who, like those shepherds, praised and glorified God when they heard the Good News of salvation. We should go to Bethlehem every day to listen to the message of salvation that God reveals to us in a humble manger. Not just to listen, but to glorify God with our testimony.

Glory to God in the highest heaven! That should be our constant prayer.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the birth of Jesus. May he be born daily in our hearts. Amen.

LUCAS 2:8-20

¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz,

buena voluntad para con los hombres!

Lucas 2:14

En esta época del año en que de manera especial se recuerda el nacimiento del Mesías, volvamos nuestra mirada a Belén, la aldea de los sencillos pastores, y escuchemos el coro angelical: ¡Gloria a Dios en lo alto!

Es provechoso pensar en el Niño que no tenía más cuna que un pesebre, y darnos cuenta de que Dios en el trascurso de los siglos, ha amado y se ha comunicado con los humildes. Jesús vivió en el hogar de un carpintero. Él era humilde, y pertenecía  a la clase humilde. Sus discípulos eran pastores, pescadores, mujeres de baja estima. Algo especial le permitió a toda esa gente rechazada convertirse en seguidores de Cristo. Tuvieron el oído atento, escucharon el mensaje y le siguieron. Todavía hay quienes oyen de buena gana.

No debemos olvidar a quienes, como aquellos pastores, estuvieron dispuestos a alabar y glorificar a Dios, al escuchar las Buenas Nuevas de salvación. Sin dudas, debemos visitar Belén todos los días y escuchar el mensaje de salvación que Dios nos revela desde un humilde pesebre. Pero no solo escuchar, sino glorificar a Dios con nuestro testimonio.

¡Gloria a Dios en alto! Esta debe ser nuestra constante oración.

Oración: Gracias, Señor, por el Nacimiento de Jesús. Permite que cada día nazca en nuestros corazones. Amén.
