ONLY GOD

Psalm 34:1-10 

 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

                                                                                                                                     Psalm 34:7

The Psalm’s initial reference places it in the narration found in I Samuel 21:10-15. When David fled Saul, he went to take refuge with the Philistine king of Gat, but his security soon became detention because they recognized what a valuable hostage they had. Simulating dementia, David got his freedom and escaped.  If Samuel’s account were the only one we had, we would say that David overcame the crisis with his cunning, but this Psalm shows that, as David reflected, he understood that it was not his wit that opened the doors for him. The secret of his regaining his freedom was “I sought out the Lord,” and “he delivered me.” (vs.4)

When we begin to suffer the effects of COVID-19, we are alarmed by the terrible consequences of this uncontrollable disease. Many of us were set apart and away from our loved ones, trapped in quarantines, and suffered depressions and bewilderments.

But many of us also united in prayer, praising the Lord and asking Him for protection and healing; for the wisdom and responsibility of our rulers and fellow citizens, and to give discernment to scientists and health personnel who faced this pandemic. As did David, we recognize it is not through our cunning that we have managed to escape, There is the angel of the Lord!

 

Prayer: Lord, we give you thanks that in difficult moments of our lives your angel accompanies us on our earthly pilgrimage, Amen,

SOLO DIOS

Salmo 34: 1-10

El ángel del Señor acampa en torno a los que le temen; a su lado está para librarlos.

Salmo 34:7

            La referencia inicial del Salmo lo ubica en lo narrado en 1 Samuel 21:10-15. Cuando David huyó de Saúl, fue a refugiarse con el rey filisteo de Gat, pero pronto su seguridad se convirtió en detención porque habían reconocido qué rehén tan valioso tenían. Simulando demencia, David consiguióó su libertad y escapó. Si el relato de Samuel fuera lo único que tuviéramos, diríamos que superó la crisis con su astucia, pero este salmo demuestra que, al reflexionar, David comprendió que no fue su ingenio lo que le abrió las puertas. El secreto de que recobrara su libertad era “busqué al Señor”, y “él me libró” (vrs. 4).

            Cuando comenzamos a sufrir las consecuencias de la COVID-19, nos sentimos alarmados por las terribles consecuencias de esta incontrolable enfermedad. Muchos estuvimos apartados y lejos de nuestros seres queridos, atrapados en las cuarentenas locales, y sufrimos depresiones y desconciertos. Pero también muchos nos unimos en oración, alabando al Señor y pidiéndole por protección y sanación; por la sabiduríía y responsabilidad de nuestros gobernantes y conciudadanos, y para que diera discernimiento a científicos y personal de la salud que se enfrentaron a esta pandemia. Como David reconocemos que no es con astucia que hemos logrado escapar. ¡Ahí está el ángel del Señor!

 

Oración: Señor, te damos gracias porque en momentos difíciles de nuestras vidas tu ángel nos acompaña en nuestro peregrinaje terrenal. Amén.
