International Day for the End of Violence Toward Women

LIFE OVER THE YEARS

John 10: 7-11

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

            We all have the hope of living many years, perhaps owing to the survival instinct in every human being, or to the fear of not existing. In response to this, when we hear about eternal life, we immediately think that it is a state in which we will never cease to exist, and this is true, but it is more than that. Eternal life is abundant life in Christ which every believer experiences in this life and for eternity.

            It is a bad thing that the years go by us and not we by the years. A lot of years mean nothing if we haven’t taken the opportunity to live fully. A full life is more than having riches or being in poverty; it is living with peace, love, and joy now and for eternity.

 

Prayer: Lord, may your life abundantly fill our being. Amen.

VIDA A LOS AÑOS

Juan 10: 7-11

…yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia.

“Al final, no son los años en nuestra vida lo que cuenta, sino la vida en nuestros años.” Abraham Lincoln

            Todos tenemos la esperanza de vivir muchos años, quizás se deba al instinto de supervivencia que hay en cada ser humano o al temor de la no existencia. En respuesta a esto, cuando escuchamos hablar de la vida eterna, enseguida pensamos que es un estado en el que nunca dejaremos de existir, y es cierto, pero es más que eso. La vida eterna es la vida abundante en Cristo que cada creyente experimenta en esta vida y por la eternidad.

            Mala cosa es que los años pasen por nosotros y no nosotros por los años. La vida es un rápido destello; cuando nos damos cuenta ya ha pasado. De nada sirve vivir muchos años si hemos desaprovechado la oportunidad de vivir plenamente. La vida plena es más que tener riquezas o estar en la pobreza; es vivir con paz, amor y gozo ahora y por la eternidad.

 

Oración: Señor, que tu vida llene abundantemente nuestro ser. Amén.
