WORKS OF THE HEART

James 2:14-17

So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.

James 2.17 (NRSV)

            What moves us to help those around us? Might it be the desire to be recognized by others or by God? Could we perhaps work with the expectation of some sort of pay back? Or is it our faith that drives us to work for the well being of those people who need our help?

            It’s very easy to seem to have our faith driving our good works; at the same time it’s easy to do good works in order to appear to have faith. Therefore, it is important that we look within and seek what it is that drives us to help others. If it is love, hope and the joy of the full life in Christ for all, we are on the right track. If it is eagerness for grandeur, recognition, and seeking the right to deserve more than others, let’s remember that the life of Jesus was a total surrender for others without claiming anything for oneself.

 

 

Prayer: Lord, may our faith in you not be only a matter of appearance; may it be a living fruitful faith capable of bringing joy to every life. Amen.

OBRAS DEL CORAZÓN

Santiago 2:14-17

Así también la fe por sí misma, si no tiene obras está muerta.

Santiago 2.17

            ¿Qué nos mueve a ayudar a los demás? ¿Puede ser el deseo de ser reconocidos por los demás o por Dios?¿Quizás obramos con el objetivo de ser retribuidos de alguna forma? O es nuestra fe la que nos impulsa a obrar para el bien de las personas que necesiten nuestra ayuda.

            Es muy fácil aparentar tener fe haciendo buenas obras; al mismo tiempo es fácil hacer buenas obras para aparentar que tenemos fe. Por eso es importante que miremos en nuestro interior y busquemos que es lo que nos impulsa a ayudar a los demás. Si es el amor, la esperanza y la alegría de la vida plena en Cristo de todos y todas, estamos en buen camino. Si es el ansia de grandeza, reconocimiento y buscando el derecho de merecer más que los demás; recordemos que la vida de Jesús fue en total entrega por los demás sin reclamar nada para sí.

 

Oración: Señor, que nuestra fe en ti no sea solo apariencias; que sea una fe viva y fructífera capaz de llevar felicidad a toda vida. Amén.
