APART FOR THE LORD

I John 3:1-3

And all who have this hope in him purify themselves even as he is pure.

I John 3:3 (CEB)

            Holiness is an extremely specific word in the Bible, highlighting the quality of separation or distinction, which is reserved or separated for God, who by being holy in himself awakens reverence, fear, and abiding dependency. The divine exhortation, “be holy, for I am holy,” which is repeated about four times in Leviticus, denotes an idea of purity about which John’s letter speaks to us.

On a certain occasion someone took a retrospective look at leaders of our churches who have passed on to the presence of the Lord. The person exclaimed: we are missing paradigms!  --

 we need to highlight those faithful people who were an inspiration.

As we think of those who have preceded us on the way to the Kingdom, we feel gratitude for their lives and works. At the same time, we plead forcefully for the church that still bears witness to faith in Jesus Christ.  We pray that the Lord may continue to lift up men and women of firm and robust faith. Each of us must feel unhappy with his Christian experience, in the sense of knowing himself in need of perfection, of sanctification. We are called to be holy (not good) in Jesus Christ.

           

Prayer: We give thanks to our good God for the great cloud of witnesses that have preceded us on the way to You. Help us follow them in their example of Jesus Christ. Amen.

APARTADOS PARA EL SEÑOR

I Juan 3:1-3

Y todo aquel que tiene esta esperanza en él se purifica a sí mismo, así como él es puro.

            La Santidad es una palabra muy específica en la Biblia, destacando la cualidad de separación o distinción, lo que es reservado o separado para Dios, quien al ser santo en sí mismo despierta reverencia y temor, a la vez que acatamiento y dependencia. La exhortación divina, “sed santos, porque yo soy santo”, se repite unas cuatro veces en Levíticos, denota una idea de pureza de la cual nos habla la carta de Juan.

            En cierta ocasión alguien realizaba una mirada retrospectiva a líderes de nuestras iglesias que han pasado a la presencia del Señor y exclamaba: ¡se nos están yendo los paradigmas!, destacando a esas personas fieles que fueron una inspiración.

            Al pensar en aquellos que nos han precedido en el camino al Reino, sentimos gratitud por sus vidas y obras, pero a la vez clamemos con fuerza por la iglesia que aún testimonia de la fe en Jesucristo para que el Señor siga levantando hombres y mujeres de fe firme y robusta. Cada uno de nosotros tiene que sentirse inconforme con su experiencia cristiana, en el sentido de saberse en necesidad de perfección, de santificación. Somos llamados a ser santos (no buenos) en Jesucristo.

 

Oración: Te damos gracias nuestro buen Dios por tan grande nube de testigos que nos han antecedido en el camino hacia Ti. Ayúdanos para seguir en ellos el ejemplo de Jesucristo. Amén.
