WHAT FOR?

Nehemiah 2: 17-20

They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

Nehemiah 6: 9 NIV

            Someone has commented that the question, what for? is an anti-force that slows us down in our ability to fight and strive. This question gives a stamp of pessimism or doubt, making of the possible results something that is not worth the sacrifice that they imply to reach them. Why study…? Why do anything….?

            The return of the exiles from Babylon in the time of King Cyrus implied an amount of great sacrifices. Not only through the reintegration into an environment that was no longer their own, but also through the difficult conditions found in the city of Jerusalem, isolated by her enemies. In the midst of all this, Nehemiah was still convinced that something great would come of it.

            As a leader, Nehemiah sought to involve all of the people in the work, he manages to circumvent the difficulties of the opposition, and he himself is involved in the construction.

            Do we put the obstacles we face before the multiple advantages? Let us set aside the “what fors?” and put our hands to the task without getting discouraged.

 

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we ask for vision to reach that which we need and courage to confront the difficulties that hinder us. In Jesus we ask, Amen.

¿PARA QUE?

Nehemias 2: 17-20

Pues ellos trataban de asustarnos, pensando que nos desanimaríamos y que no llevaríamos a cabo la obra

Nehemías 6: 9

            Alguien ha comentado que la pregunta ¿para qué? es una anti-fuerza que nos resta impulso para luchar y esforzarnos. Ella pone un sello de pesimismo o de duda, haciendo de los posibles resultados algo que no vale la pena el sacrificio que implican para alcanzarlos. ¿Para qué estudiar…? ¿Para qué hacer…?

            El regreso de los repatriados en Babilonia, en tiempos del rey persa Ciro, implicó una cuota de grandes sacrificios. No solo por la reinserción en un medio que ya no era el propio, sino además por las difíciles condiciones en las que encontraron la ciudad de Jerusalén, asolada por los enemigos. En medio de todo ello Nehemías seguía convencido que algo grandioso podía llevarse a cabo.

            Como líder, Nehemías logra involucrar a todo el pueblo en la obra, logra sortear las dificultades de la oposición, y él mismo se involucra en la construcción.

            ¿Ponemos delante primero los obstáculos antes que las múltiples ventajas? Dejemos a un lado los ´para qué´ y pongamos manos a la obra sin desanimarnos.

 

Oración: Padre celestial, pedimos visión para alcanzar aquello que necesitamos, y coraje para enfrentarnos a las dificultades que nos entorpezcan. En Jesús lo pedimos. Amén.
