THE MOST EXPENSIVE OF ALL

Colossians 3:1-4

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth

Colossians 3: 2 (NRSV)

One of the harshest realities we have to endure during these times is the high cost of everything that is sold. The prices of everything marketed are high. What’s happening? Why has life become more expensive?

All these questions assault our senses. I believe that this is happening because our world has taken shape in a way that has given too much importance to earthly goods.

Whoever has believed in Christ must think and live differently, must give himself primarily a higher value because He paid a high price for our salvation. Jesus wants to teach us a lesson of humility and service so that our sight might not be fixed on the immediate or the pleasurable, but may rise upwards toward the infinite, to the goal of achieving abundant and full life. We must aspire to reach the spiritual gifts which come from God.

Those are the treasures toward which we must truly struggle, which have a heavenly origin. Those are what endure and what help us to withstand the trials which try to make us fail in the race of life.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, help us to distinguish what our priorities in life are, and never to turn our senses away from your divine direction. Amen.

LO MÁS CARO DE TODO

Colosenses 3:1-4

Poned la mira en las cosas de arriba, no en las de la tierra.

Colosenses 3: 2 

Una de las realidades más crudas que hemos de soportar durante estos tiempos es el elevado costo de todo lo que se vende. Son altos los precios de todo aquello que se comercializa. ¿Qué está sucediendo? ¿Por qué la vida se ha tornado más cara?

Todas estas preguntas asaltan nuestra mente. Creo que esto sucede porque nuestro mundo se ha materializado de forma tal que se le ha dado demasiada importancia a los bienes terrenales.

Quien ha creído en Cristo ha de pensar y vivir diferente; ha de darse primeramente un alto valor a sí mismo porque Él pagó un alto precio por nuestra salvación.  Jesús intento enseñarnos una lección de humildad y servicio, para que nuestra mirada no vaya a fijarse en lo inmediato o lo que produce placer, sino que pueda elevarse hacia arriba, hacia lo infinito, hacia la meta de alcanzar vida abundante y plena. Hemos de aspirar a alcanzar los dones espirituales que vienen de Dios.

Esos son los tesoros por los que verdaderamente hemos de luchar, que tienen un origen celestial. Son esos los que perduran y los que nos sirven para poder soportar las pruebas que intentan hacer fracasar nuestra carrera de la fe.

 

Oración: Padre amado, ayúdanos a distinguir cuáles son nuestras prioridades en la vida y a nunca apartar nuestros sentidos de tu dirección divina. Amén.
