The Nearness of God is Joy

Psalm 65

The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Psalm 65:13 NIV

The Psalms are prayers and songs from which we can go before God with our deepest feelings, needs and longings.

Perhaps for this reason when we are asked about our favorite text of the Scriptures, many Christians allude to the Book of Psalms, or specifically to one that may have helped and sustained us in the midst of certain moments and experiences that marked our lives.

Psalm 65 in particular leaves us with a feeling of complete happiness, of joy, which comes from the certainty that the psalmist confirms in this song: the close presence of God for his sons and daughters, also for all his creation that transforms life, that generates well-being.

This certainty also becomes responsibility and commitment in our lives, it makes us responsible to be spokespeople for God's justice, to widen the providence that we receive from God, so that it reaches those who are deprived, lacking; and finally it commits us to the care of his creation.

 

Prayer: Lord, may we never lack the joy of feeling your presence in our lives. Amen.

La cercanía de Dios es alegría  Salmo 65

Los llanos se cubren de rebaños, los valles se revisten  de trigales; ¡todos cantan y gritan de alegrsa!

Salmo 65:13

Los Salmos son oraciones y cánticos desde donde  podemos ir ante  Dios  con nuestros sentimientos,  necesidades y anhelos más profundos.

Quizás por esta razón cuando se nos pregunta por  nuestro  texto  favorito  de  las  Escrituras,  muchas  cristianas y cristianos aludimos al Libro de los Salmos,  o en especsfico  a  alguno  que nos puede haber  ayudado y sostenido en medio de determinados  momentos y experiencias que marcaron nuestras  vidas.

Especialmente el salmo 65 nos deja una sensación de  dicha  plena,  de alegrsa, que proviene de la certeza que  el salmista nos confirma en este canto: la presencia  cercana de  Dios  para con sus hijos e hijas, también  para toda su creación que transforma la vida, que genera bienestar.

Esta  certeza  se  hace  también  responsabilidad  y  compromiso en nuestras vidas, nos responsabiliza con  ser voceros de la justicia de  Dios,  con ensanchar la  providencia que de  Dios  recibimos, para que alcance a  quienes están desprovistos, carentes; y por último nos  compromete con el cuidado de su creación.

 

Oración: Señor que nunca nos falte la alegrsa de sentir  tu presencia en nuestras vidas. Amén.
