Anniversary of the World Council of Churches

WITHOUT BENEFITS OF SENIORITY

Matthew 20: 1-16

When he went out about nine o’clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace; and he said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’

Matthew 20:3 (NRSV)

God has a plan for everyone, and the way in which it touches hearts has its own pace. However, in God’s love there is no “benefit of seniority.” No one should feel that having grown up in a church grants them privileges over a new brother or sister. Both are people who feel the call, and therefore, deserve the same opportunities to work, to serve, and to share their witness of faith.

God has loved each of us, and each of us from the time we were formed in our mother’s womb, if we pay attention and choose to rise from our spiritual lethargy, to accept the call which invites us to labor for God’s work, to share love with our neighbor, to get over the human miseries that make us selfish, then we will receive the reward that God, who is always just, gives to us.

 

Prayer: God of life, may I always find joy in the accomplishments of my sisters and brothers. Amen.

SIN BENEFICIOS DE ANTIGÜEDAD

Mateo 20: 1-16

Saliendo cerca de la hora tercera del día, vio a otros que estaban en la plaza desocupados; y les dijo: Id también vosotros a mi viña y os daré lo que sea justo.

Mateo 20:3

Para cada persona Dios tiene un plan, y la manera en que llega a los corazones tiene su tiempo. Sin embargo, en el amor de Dios, no hay un ¨beneficio de antigüedad¨. Nadie debe sentir que haber crecido en una iglesia le otorga privilegios respecto a un hermano o hermana que apenas llega nueva. Ambas son personas que sienten el llamado y, por ende, merecen iguales oportunidades para trabajar, y servir, y compartir su testimonio de fe.

Él nos ha amado a cada una y cada uno desde que nos formamos en el vientre de nuestra madre, y si prestamos atención, y escogemos levantarnos de nuestros paros espirituales, y aceptamos el llamado que nos convida a trabajar para su obra, a repartir amor a nuestro prójimo, a pasar por encima de las miserias humanas que nos hacen egoístas, entonces recibiremos la recompensa que, siempre justa, tiene Dios para darnos.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, que siempre encuentre yo alegría en los logros de mis hermanas y hermanos Amén.
