Live to serve

Matthew 16: 24 -28

Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.  (NIV)

Matthew  16:24

Jesus tells us about one of the oldest paradoxes of humanity, that many times the human being is sidetracked in his search of objectives that make him lose himself in the process.

To win, you have to deny yourself. It is not about denying life, resigning, or sacrificing, but to win life you have to deny what denies it, those attitudes that we have that cause its death, that prevent its development in those around us and in ourselves.

It is to stop living egocentrically, only for ourselves. It is living in relationship, for a common good, which goes beyond us and lasts forever. Taking up our cross to follow Jesus is being consistent with our identity, serving our neighbor, because life is earned in community together.

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for showing us the way. We ask that we continue to find your lights and your love as we walk with those close to us, to serve you, to win, share and celebrate life. Amen.

Vivir para servir

Mateo 16: 24 -28

Si alguno de ustedes quiere ser mi seguidor, tiene que  abandonar su propia manera de vivir, tomar su cruz y  seguirme.

Mateo  16:24

Jesús nos habla de una de las paradojas más antiguas de  la  humanidad, que muchas veces el ser humano se  diluye  en  búsqueda  de  objetivos  que  nos  hacen  perdernos en el proceso.

Para ganar  hay  que negarse a si mismo. No se trata de  negar la vida, resignarse o sacrificarse, sino que para  ganar la vida  hay  que negar aquello que la niega, esas as  actitudes  que tenemos que causan su muerte, que  impiden su desarrollo en quienes tenemos alrededor y  en nosotros mismos.

Es dejar de vivir el egocentrismo de que  lo  hacemos sólo  para nosotros mismos. Es vivir en relación, para un bien  en común, que va más allá de nosotros y perdura  siempre. Tomar nuestra cruz para seguir a Jesús es ser  consecuentes con nuestra identidad, servir al prójimo,  porque la vida se gana en comunidad juntas y juntos.

 

Oración: Señor,  gracias por mostrarnos el camino.  Te  pedimos que sigamos encontrando en el caminar junto  a  quienes tenemos cerca,  tus  luces  y tu amor, para  servirte, para ganar, compartir y celebrar la vida. Amén.
