WHO WILL BE SAVED?

Matthew 19: 23-30

“For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26 (NRSV)

The meeting of Jesus with the rich young man also shocked the disciples as it challenged their entire scale of values. If this rich young man who presented himself with endorsements to enter the group, who sought eternal life, wasn’t able, then who could be saved?

Jesus assures his disciples that whoever has his heart set on riches will find it difficult to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Seeing the bewilderment of his disciples, he offers this answer:

God can intervene to save those who respond to his call.

Peter wants to know what will those who have left everything to follow Jesus gain.

Jesus promised them that those who were willing to endure the sacrifices of discipleship would receive far greater blessings, both now, in the fellowship of God’s people, and in the world to come.

God’s Reign is already within the reach of human possibilities, but for us, what do we lack?

 

Prayer: Lord, forgive us when it is not our priority to follow you. Amen.

¿QUIEN SE SALVARA?

Mateo 19: 23-30

Para los hombres es imposible, aclaró Jesús, mirándolos fijamente, mas para Dios todo es posible.

Mateo 19:26

El encuentro de Jesús con el joven rico también impactó a los discípulos en cuanto a que retaba toda su escala de valores. Si este joven rico, que se presenta con avales para entrar al grupo, que busca la “vida eterna”; no lo logró, entonces ¿quién podría salvarse?

Jesús asegura a sus discípulos que el que tiene el corazón puesto en las riquezas difícilmente entre en el Reino de los cielos. Ante el desconcierto de sus discípulos ofrece la respuesta:

Dios puede intervenir para salvar a aquellos que respondan a su llamado.

Pedro quiere conocer qué ganarán ellos que lo han dejado todo para seguirlo.

Jesús les prometió que aquellos que estuvieran dispuestos a soportar los sacrificios de ser discípulos recibirán bendiciones mucho mayores, tanto ahora, en la comunión del pueblo de Dios, como en el mundo por venir.

El Reino de Dios ya está al alcance de las posibilidades humanas, pero a nosotros ¿que nos falta?
