MURMURINGS THAT SAVE, NOT JUDGE

Luke 19:1-10

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”(…) All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner”.

Once again Jesus chose a sinner in order to teach us a lesson.

With so many other options, why choose to lodge with Zacchaeus, a tax collector, and therefore a servant of the Roman empire, whom the people despised?

It is a virtue of Jesus to put all our prejudices against the wall. This is a living testimony that the proposal of salvation never had limitations beyond those that the narrowness of our human mind could imagine. Was it not about a human being? Why should the crowd be worried about Jesus coming to Zacchaeus’ house? 

We should put a little more trust in the Master’s power of convocation, in his extraordinary ability to transform what seemed lost to our vision, because all people have a calling, we just don’t all have the astuteness of Zacchaeus to find the best angle from which to observe…

And that is where those of us who are already on the path come in, to facilitate that discovery, that possibility of transformation, and not to close doors, nor to decide who is, or is not, worthy of receiving Jesus in their heart.

 

Prayer: Beloved Jesus, may we be bridges and not walls who those who are lost. Amen.

MURMURACIONES QUE SALVEN, NO QUE ENJUICIEN

Lucas 19:1-10

Jesús, al llegar a aquel sitio, levantó los ojos y dijo: «Zaqueo, baja enseguida, porque hoy tengo que alojarme en tu casa.» (...) Al ver esto, todos murmuraban, diciendo: «Ha entrado a hospedarse en casa de un pecador.»

Lucas 19:5-7

Una vez más Jesús escoge a una persona pecadora˝ para darnos una lección.

Con tantas otras opciones, l,por qué escoger para hospedarlo a Zaqueo, cobrador de impuestos y, por ende, servidor del imperio Romano, a quien el pueblo despreciaba?

Es una virtud de Jesús poner todos nuestros prejuicios contra la pared. Este es un testimonio vivo de que la propuesta de la salvación nunca tuvo l imites más allá de los que la estrechez de nuestra mente humana pudo ponerle. l,No se trataba de un ser humano? l,Por qué tendria que inquietarse la multitud porque Jesús acudiera a casa de Zaqueo?

Tendriamos que confiar un poco más en el poder de convocatoria del Maestro, en la extraordinaria habilidad para transformar lo que a nuestros ojos parecia perdido ^{S S}. Porque todas las personas tienen un llamado, sólo que no siempre tenemos la astucia de Zaqueo para encontrar el mejor ángulo desde donde observar...

Y ahi es donde entramos quienes ya estamos en el camino, para facilitar ese descubrimiento, esa posibilidad de transformación, y no para cerrar puertas ni decidir quién es, o no, merecedor de recibir a Jesús en su corazón.
