SHALL WE ACCEPT THE INVITATION?

Luke 14: 15-24

Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Romans 12:11 (NRSV)

The text proposed for today follows the controversies of Jesus who, together with others, was in the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread. The first verse refers to one who was at the table, who on hearing about the resurrection, described those who shared the banquet in God’s Kingdom as blessed. Again, Jesus responds with a parable, which is known as the Parable of the Great Banquet.

Jesus’ words reflect the form in which those people were treating God’s invitation as prioritizing their personal affairs before accepting the invitation. He also shows them how God invites people who have no position in society, thus defending himself in taking the gospel to publicans and sinners.

We may feel alluded to, because we know that we do not always respond to the Lord’s call and we condition it to what suits us.  But we also are blessed by being invited.

All that remains for us is to reply: Yes or No?

 

Prayer: Lord, we ask your forgiveness for the times we put off your invitation to take delight in your Reign. Amen.

¿ACEPTAMOS LA INVITACIÓN?

Lucas 14: 15-24

Nunca dejen de ser diligentes; antes bien, sirvan al Señor con el fervor que da el Espíritu.

Romanos 12: 11

El texto propuesto para hoy da continuidad a las controversias de Jesús que está en la casa de uno de los principales fariseos junto a otros invitados para comer pan. El versículo inicial hace referencia a que uno que estaba en la mesa, al oír acerca de la resurrección, describe la felicidad de los que compartirán el banquete en el Reino de Dios. Jesús responde nuevamente con una parábola, que se conoce como: Parábola del gran banquete.

Las palabras de Jesús reflejan la forma en que esas personas estaban tratando la invitación de Dios, al priorizar sus asuntos personales antes de aceptar la invitación. Les muestra también como Dios invita a personas que no tienen posición alguna en la sociedad, así se defiende por llevar el evangelio a publicanos y pecadores.

Podemos sentirnos aludidos, porque sabemos que no siempre acudimos al llamado del Señor y lo condicionamos a nuestras prioridades. Pero también estamos felices porque somos invitados.

Sólo nos queda responder: ¿aceptamos o no?

 

Oración: Señor, te pedimos perdón por las veces que aplazamos tu invitación a disfrutar de tu Reino. Amén.
