All Saints Day

THEN HE BEGAN TO SPEAK

Matthew 5: 1-12

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven

We live in a world where daily we are driven farther from being worthy of the Promised Reign: social inequalities and interminable wars of all sorts that yield death, hunger, illness, among other calamities and massive migrations in search of a better life.

Our society does not escape from this, the “vulnerable” (the marginalized, poor, abused and exploited) are increasing, and our dreams of equality and social justice are fading despite the efforts and sacrifices made.

But the promise stands, and today comes to us through this biblical text: the “Sermon on the Mount,” which is doubtless the Magna Carta of the Gospel, and more, of Jesus’ entrance into the search for the multitudes who are “sheep without a shepherd.”

The beatitudes follow an ascending cirdcle, and the “blessed” are called to make use of the qualities that can make us capable of being classified as worthy of the privilege of joy in the midst of difficulties.

Peace is not a gift from above; we build it right here. (v. 9)

Blessed are we when we are faithful to the Lord; we don’t do any more than what He did. (v. 10)

 

Prayer: Lord we ask for strength and courage to accept the challenge of building your Reign here and now. Amen.

Día de Todos los Santos

ABRIENDO SU BOCA

Matthew 5: 1-12

Gozaos y alegraos, porque vuestro galardón es grande en los  cielos.

Mateo 5: 12a

Vivimos en medio de un mundo que nos aleja cada vez más de ser merecedores del Reino prometido: desigualdades sociales y guerras interminables de todo tipo que generan muertes, hambre, enfermedades, entre otras calamidades y migraciones masivas en busca de una vida mejor.

Nuestra sociedad no escapa de ello, aumentan los “vulnerables” (los marginados, pobres, maltratados y explotados) y nuestros sueños de igualdad y justicia social se van desvaneciendo a pesar de los esfuerzos y sacrificios realizados.

Pero la promesa sigue en pie, y hoy llega a nosotros por este texto bíblico: El “Sermón del Monte”; que es sin dudas la carta magna del Evangelio, y más, de la intervención de Jesús en la búsqueda de las multitudes que “como ovejas marchaban sin pastor”.

Las bienaventuranzas siguen un círculo ascendente y los “dichosos” son llamados a hacer uso de cualidades capaces de clasificarlos para merecer el privilegio del gozo en medio de las dificultades:

La paz no es una dádiva que viene de arriba, la construimos nosotros acá abajo. (v.9)

Bienaventurados por ser fieles al Señor; no hacemos más que lo que Él hizo. (v.10)

 

Oración: Señor, te pedimos fuerzas y valor para aceptar el reto de construir tu Reino aquí y ahora. Amén.
