Day of Thanksgiving

GOD DOES NOT ABANDON US, HIS FAITHFULNESS IS FOREVER

John 1:1-18

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

John 1:9 (NIV)

This is the last day of the year, the time when we almost always look back over the road we have traveled.

We may have left dreams unfulfilled or plans unfinished. We may have had difficult moments. Perhaps we lost someone we love or let go of happiness because of our own selfishness. But, even so, we have one of the greatest certainties that will drive us and accompany us in the coming year: Jesus Christ brings us grace and truth, peace and serenity, life, and freedom.

We can dwell on the pains of the past, on what was not or what is no more, or we can celebrate, because in the midst of chaos, we have full confidence in Jesus, Lord of life. Let us not let defeats defeat us, let us not allow them to rob us of hope. There is Jesus, Lord of history, who is forever faithful and who manifests himself at every moment to give reason to our hope. Happy New Year!

 

Prayer: Lord, in the midst of all the joy and festivities of the celebrations, we want to take some time to thank you for so many blessings received during this year. Thank you for all the moments, the good and the not so good. But above all, we thank you because your presence accompanied us every second, and because we are certain that it will continue to accompany us in this new year that is beginning. Thank you for everything Lord! Amen.

Día de Acción de Gracias

DIOS NO NOS ABANDONA, SU FIDELIDAD ES PARA SIEMPRE

Juan 1:1-18

Aquel era la luz verdadera, que alumbra a todo hombre que viene a este mundo.

Juan 1:9

Es el último día del año, tiempo en el que casi siempre, miramos el camino desandado.

Pueden haber quedado sueños sin realizar, planes sin finalizar, podemos haber tenido momentos difíciles, complejos, quizás perdimos a alguien que amamos o dejamos ir la felicidad por nuestros propios egoísmos; pero, aun así, tenemos una de las certezas más grandes que nos impulsará y acompañará en el próximo año: Jesucristo nos trae la gracia y la verdad, la paz y la serenidad, vida y la libertad.

Podemos quedarnos en los dolores del pasado, en lo que no fue o en lo que ya no está, o podemos celebrar, porque en medio del caos, tenemos la confianza plena en Jesús, Señor de la vida. No dejemos que las derrotas nos venzan, no permitamos que nos roben la esperanza. Ahí está Jesús, Señor de la historia, que es fiel para siempre y se manifiesta en cada momento para darle razón a nuestra esperanza. ¡Feliz año nuevo!

 

Oración: Señor, en medio de la algarabía y los festejos de las celebraciones, queremos tomarnos un tiempo para agradecerte por tantas bendiciones recibidas en este año. Gracias por todos los momentos, los buenos y los no tan buenos. Pero por sobre todas las cosas, te agradecemos porque tu presencia nos acompañó a cada segundo, y porque tenemos la certeza de que nos seguirá acompañando en este nuevo año que comienza. ¡Gracias por todo Señor! Amén.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30th

WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF GOD, WE ARE A SPECIAL PEOPLE

Psalm 95

For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

Psalm 95: 7a (NIV)

What a comfort it is to know we belong to something: to a family, a community, a people, especially when we are called together by the same faith! How great it is to feel the strength of those who, together with us, never tire of doing good, of bearing witness to God!

Being part of something also implies responsibilities. We must respect those who share the same path with us. We should keep in mind that anything we do wrong can hurt the integrity of the other people who are with us. If we know that we under the care of God, we must at the same time also care for those around us, in the same way that we feel God does with us.

Let us take care of the threads that bind us together and make us the body of God, let us walk with the assurance that He always watches over and cares for His people, and let us not disappoint His trust; but let us show others the same unconditional goodness that He has for us.

 

Prayer: We are your people, Lord; we form part of your flock. Help us to walk holding the hands of those who share our path, and with our eyes fixed on you. Amen.

SÁBADO, 30 DE DICIEMBRE

SOMOS EL PUEBLO DE DIOS, SOMOS UN PUEBLO ESPECIAL

Salmo 95

Porque él es nuestro Dios; nosotros el pueblo de su dehesa, y ovejas de su mano...

Salmo 95: 7a

¡Qué reconfortante es saber que pertenecemos a algo, a una familia, una comunidad, un pueblo, sobre todo, cuando somos convocados por una misma fe! ¡Qué bueno es sentir la fuerza de, quienes, junto a nosotros y nosotras, no se cansan de hacer el bien, de dar testimonio de Dios!

Ser parte de algo, también implica responsabilidades, debemos respetar a quienes comparten con nosotros un mismo camino. Debemos estar conscientes que cualquier cosa que hagamos mal puede dañar la integridad de las otras personas que nos acompañan. Si sabemos que estamos bajo los cuidados de Dios, debemos al mismo tiempo cuidar a quienes nos rodean, de la misma forma, que sentimos Dios hace con nosotros.

Cuidemos los hilos que nos unen y nos hacen cuerpo de Dios, caminemos con la seguridad de que Él siempre vela y cuida a su pueblo, y no defraudemos su confianza; sino mostremos a otros la misma bondad incondicional que Él tiene para con nosotros.

 

Oración: Somos tu pueblo Señor, formamos parte de tu rebaño. Ayúdanos a caminar tomados de las manos de los que comparten nuestro sendero, y con la vista puesta en ti. Amén.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 29th

MY LIFE AS A REFLECTION OF THE GOSPEL

1 John 2:3-11

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

1 John 2:6 (NIV)

Incoherence is one of the great problems that threatens any project, relationship, or proposal nowadays.

From the Christian faith, being incoherent goes against the ethical proposal of the Gospel and therefore the fulfillment of the mission to which God has called us. For there is nothing worse than knowing what one should do and how to do it, and not doing it or doing it badly.

Sadly, sometimes we suffer the contradiction of seeing people who proclaim their faith loudly while at the same time they are violent, excluding, unhelpful, conflictive, and unjust people; we call that incoherence, that divorce between what you say you believe and the practice of life.

When we decide to follow Jesus Christ, everything we do should be measured by the yardstick of His ethical proposal, of His project of love. Otherwise, we will stumble from stumbling block to stumbling block.

Today could be a good day to bring ourselves closer to the measure of good that Jesus has placed in our lives and to go out and show, in coherence with the Gospel, what we have inherited from Him.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, allow us to live in coherence with what you expect of us, so that we can show you to the world through our daily actions and lives. Amen.

MI VIDA COMO REFLEJO DEL EVANGELIO

1 Juan 2:3-11

El que dice que está en él, debe andar como él anduvo.

1 Juan 2:6

La incoherencia es uno de los grandes problemas que atentan contra cualquier proyecto, relación o propuesta en nuestros dias.

Desde la fe cristiana, ser incoherente atenta contra la propuesta ética del Evangelio y por consiguiente el cumplimiento de la misión a la que nos ha llamado Dios. Pues no hay nada peor que saber lo que hay que hacer, de la manera correcta y no hacerlo o hacerlo mal.

Lamentablemente, en ocasiones sufrimos la contradicción de ver a personas que proclaman su fe en voz alta y al mismo tiempo son personas violentas, excluyentes, poco serviciales, conflictivas e injustas; a eso, llamamos incoherencia, a ese divorcio entre lo que dices creer y la práctica de vida.

Cuando decidimos seguir a Jesucristo, todo lo que hagamos debe ser medido con la vara de su propuesta ética, de su proyecto de amor. De lo contrario, estaremos de tropiezo en tropiezo.

Hoy puede ser un buen dia para acercarnos más a la medida de bien que Jesús ha puesto en nuestras vidas y salir a mostrar, en coherencia con el Evangelio, lo que de Él hemos heredado.

 

Oración: Señor Jesús, permitenos vivir en coherencia con lo que tú esperas de nosotros, para poder mostrarte ante el mundo a través de nuestro actuar y vivir diario. Amén.
