SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17

THE VOICES OF THE GOSPEL

John 1: 6-8; 19-28

Then they said to him, “Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ ”

John 1: 22-23 (NRSV)

Those who walk with Jesus... Those who are part of his people see, during the march for life, the vestiges of light and hope, even if the road becomes rough. This is one of the main reasons why Christians are targeted “at the tip of their fingers.” For today’s overwhelmed society, it is not possible for there to be responsible human beings committed to the common welfare, and to the well-being of others.

John the Baptist is a faithful example for Christians, especially for those who are fastest brought to life by life. Who are we and what do we expect? What arguments should I express to bear witness to a different way of life? How can we give voice to those joys and pains that we carry within? These questions deserve honest, humble and firm answers; full of faith, justice and love.

Our witness is the best way to demonstrate our Christian identity! Let us feel, like John, the commitment to be the voice of those who cry out in the desi

 

Prayer: Pilgrim God, we thank you for calling us to restore and heal. That we can share the journey with others. Show us the wisdom needed for our voices to stand up to the painful silences of oppression and injustice. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

LAS VOCES DEL EVANGELIO

Juan 1: 6-8; 19-28

Le dijeron: ¿Pues quién eres? Para que demos respuesta a los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo? Dijo: Yo soy la voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijo el profeta Isaías.

Juan 1: 22-23

Quienes caminan junto a Jesús...quienes son parte de su pueblo, ven, durante la marcha por la vida, los vestigios de luz y de esperanza, aunque el camino se torne escabroso. Esta es una de las principales razones por la que cristianos/as son sujetos de señalamientos "a punta de dedos". Para la abrumada sociedad actual no es posible que existan seres humanos responsables y comprometidos con el bienestar común, y de los otros.

Juan el Bautista es un ejemplo fiel para los cristianos/as, esencialmente para aquellos/as que la vida nos lleva más aprisa. ¿Quiénes somos y qué esperamos? ¿Qué argumentos expresar para dar testimonio de una propuesta de vida diferente? ¿Cómo dar voz a esas alegrías y dolores que cargamos dentro? Estas cuestiones merecen respuestas honestas, humildes y firmes; plagadas de fe, de justicia y amor.

¡Nuestro testimonio es la mejor manera de demostrar nuestra identidad cristiana! Sintamos como Juan, el compromiso de ser la voz de aquellos/as que claman en los desiertos de la vida, que es la misma voz de Jesús, El Mesías; esa voz que sana, que libera y acompaña.

Oración: Dios Peregrino, agradecemos nos hayas llamado para restaurar y sanar. Que podamos compartir el camino con otros/as. Muéstranos la sabiduría necesaria para que nuestras voces hagan frente a los dolorosos silencios de opresión e injusticias. En el nombre de Jesús, Amén.
