SATURDAY, JANUARY 13

WHO ARE WE INVITING?

Mark 2: 13-17

[…] Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but the sinners.”   (NIV)”

Mark 2:17

On many occasions we isolate and judge those whom we consider to have incorrect attitudes, or those whom we believe are inferior, without taking into account that we are equal before God. Furthermore, who needs our dedication: those who know God and seek him, or those who do not?

I once told a friend that a church sister wanted to return after leaving, because she was on “a bad path,” and she replied: “What good news! We need her here again, she is also an important part of our church.” By this exchange I learned not to judge, to give thousands more opportunities.

Let us invite to our house (church) that stranger who may be a thief, that woman who earns her living on the streets, the drunk, the drug addict. Let us gradually gain the trust of those who need a family, a refuge.

 

Prayer: Father and mother, forgive every time we ignore those most in need. Fill us with your peace, fill us with your grace. Amen.

¿A QUIÉNES INVITAMOS?

Marcos 2: 13-17

“(...) Jesús les dijo: Los sanos no tienen necesidad de médico, sino los enfermos. No he venido a llamar a justos, sino a pecadores.”

Marcos 2:17

En muchas ocasiones aislamos y juzgamos a quienes consideramos que tienen actitudes incorrectas o a quienes creemos que son inferiores, sin tener en cuenta que, ante Dios, somos iguales. Además, ¿quiénes necesitan de nuestra dedicación: los y las que conocen a Dios y lo buscan o los y las que no?

Una vez le comenté a una amiga que una hermana de la iglesia quería regresar después de haberse alejado por andar en “malos pasos”; y me respondió: “¡Qué buena noticia! La necesitamos otra vez aquí, ella también es parte importante de nuestra iglesia.” Y aprendí a no juzgar, a dar miles de oportunidades más.

Invitemos entonces a nuestra casa (iglesia) a ese desconocido que quizás sea un ladrón, a esa mujer que se gana la vida en las calles, al borracho, al drogadicto. Ganemos poco a poco la confianza de quienes necesitan una familia, un refugio.

 

Oración : Padre y madre, perdona cada vez que ignoramos a los más necesitados. Llénanos de tu paz, llénanos de tu gracia. Amén.
