THURSDAY, JANUARY 4

THE LAMB OF GOD

John 1:35-42

“Where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him

The choice of the first disciples ranged from simple fishermen to tax collectors. All left their labors to follow the Master.

Andrew heard the words of John the Baptist and followed. When he saw his brother Simon, he told him his impression of Jesus. We do not know what motivated them; possibly they interpreted John’s words as promises that going with Jesus would lead to the defeat of the Romans and the triumph of the Jews. Gradually they would understand that their purpose was different, but they followed with enthusiasm and joy on an adventure that would change their lives.

Thus Jesus Christ began to transmit with deeds, words, miracles, and parables what has come to us as the most beautiful, true story of all time, God made human, the Lamb of God who was born in a stable and died on the cross for us. Praise be to his name.

Prayer: Thank you, God, for the gift of salvation. May your name be blessed forever. Amen.

EL CORDERO DE DIOS

Juan 1:35-42

¿Dónde moras? Les dijo: venid y ved. Fueron y miraron donde moraba y se quedaron con él.

La elección de los primeros discípulos fue desde simples pescadores a cobradores de impuestos. Todos abandonaron sus labores para seguir al Maestro.

Andrés escuchó las palabras de Juan el bautista y lo siguió. Al ver a su hermano Simón, le transmite su impresión sobre Jesus. No sabemos qué los movía, posiblemente interpretaban las palabras de Juan como promesas de ir con Jesus a la derrota de los romanos y el triunfo de los judíos. Poco a poco entenderían que era otro su propósito, pero de todas formas le siguieron con entusiasmo y alegría a una aventura que cambiaría sus vidas.

Así empezó Jesucristo a trasmitirle con hechos, palabras, milagros y parábolas, lo que llegaría a nosotros como la más hermosa historia real de todos los tiempos: Dios hecho hombre, el Cordero de Dios que nació en un establo y murió en la cruz por nosotros. Alabado sea su nombre.
