A DIFFERENT AUTHORITY

Mark 1: 21-28

The people were amazed at his teaching because he taught them as one who had authority…

Mark 1:22 (NIV)

More than one authority has been conquered in this world by force, money, betrayal, unjust death or by the onslaught of violence, such as that exercised by the impure spirit over man, as related in the text

But the authority of Jesus is not linked to any of these “conquests.”

Jesus’ authority, manifested in this text, is that which was recognized in the synagogue, the same authority that frightened everyone, that made his fame spread throughout Galilee while he gained so many adversaries and enemies that allowed even the impure spirits to recognize him as the Holy One of God. It is totally different. It was based on concrete facts, in the exercise of justice, in the practice of love and mercy. If we look around us, we can see that much of this authority is missing in the world around us. Let us dedicate this day to sharing through words and deeds the authority we recognize in Jesus.

 

Prayer: Lord, fill us with your love, mercy, and sense of justice. Give us the courage to put them into practice every day. Amen.

UNA AUTORIDAD DIFERENTE

La gente se admiraba de cómo les enseñaba, porque lo hacía con plena autoridad...

Marcos 1:22

Más de una autoridad ha sido conquistada en este mundo por la fuerza, por el dinero, por la traición, por la muerte injusta o por la arremetida de la violencia, como aquella ejercida por el espiritu inmundo sobre el hombre, según se relata en el texto

Pero la autoridad de Jesús no está vinculada a ninguna de estas “conquistas”.

La autoridad de Jesús, manifestada en este texto, aquella que le fue reconocida en la sinagoga, la misma asustó a todos, que le valió para que su fama se extendiera por toda la Galilea al tiempo que ganaba tantos adversarios y enemigos, que permitió que hasta los espiritus inmundos le reconocieran como el Santo de Dios es totalmente diferente, se basaba en hechos concretos, en el ejercicio de la justicia, en la práctica del amor y la misericordia. Si miramos a nuestro alrededor podemos comprobar que falta mucho de esta autoridad en el mundo que nos rodea. Dediquemos este dia a compartir mediante hechos y palabras la autoridad en Jesús reconocemos.

 

Oración: Señor llénanos de tu amor, misericordia, sentido de la justicia, y danos el valor para ponerles en práctica cada dia. Amén
