LORD OF THE SATURDAY

Mark 2: 23-28

Man regards the appearances, while the Lord is fixed upon the heart.  (NIV)

1 Samuel 16: 7b.

Jesus confronts the Pharisees, those considered experts in the Scriptures, and with some irony he asks them, “Have you never read what David did on that occasion, when he and his companions were hungry and in need?” (v.25).

He also gives them the answer with his teaching: “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” (v.27), clearing the fog that they imposed on God’s commandment. (Deuteronomy 5: 12¬16).

Jesus turns to history to discover that the criterion for interpreting the law is not the law itself, but the need of man, so every structure has to be at the service of man, because God himself says: “What I ask of you is to love, and not sacrifices, (Hosea 6, 6ª.NIV)

The Kingdom of God sends clear signs when it is opposed by those who are blind to the kingdom, not because they do not see, but because they feel threatened, their status is in danger. They use “laws” in any possession, even in religion, to impose and subdue.

It is impossible to remain neutral when we face Christ. Would he be the Messiah and the Son of God, or not? Which side are we on?

 

Prayer: Lord, make us send signs of your Kingdom by fulfilling your law of love here and now. Amen.

SEÑOR DEL SABADO

Marcos 2: 23-28

El hombre se fija en las apariencias, pero el Señor se fija en los corazones.

1 Samuel 16: 7b.

Nuevamente vemos en este pasaje el choque de Jesús con los maestros de la ley; ahora lo reprenden porque están ejecutando una de las formas de transgredir el dia dedicado a Dios.

Jesús enfrenta a los fariseos; esas personas consideradas expertas en las Escrituras; y con cierta ironia les pregunta: - “¿Nunca han leído lo que hizo David en aquella ocasión, cuando él y sus compañeros tuvieron hambre y pasaron necesidad?” (v.25).

Y les da también la respuesta con su enseñanza: - “El sábado se hizo para el hombre, y no el hombre para el sábado” (v.27), despejando la neblina que imponian al mandamiento de Dios. (Deuteronomio 5: 1216).

Jesús recurre a la historia, para descubrirles que el criterio de interpretación de la Ley no es la ley misma sino la necesidad del hombre, por lo que toda estructura tiene que estar al servicio del hombre pues el mismo Dios dice: “Lo que pido de ustedes es amor y no sacrificios, (Oseas 6, 6ª.NVI)

El Reino de Dios emite señales claras cuando recibe oposición por parte de aquellos que son ciegos al Reino, no porque no vean; sino porque se siente amenazados, su status peligra. Utilizan las “leyes” en cualquier posesión, hasta en la religión, para imponer y someter.

Es imposible quedar neutral cuando enfrentamos a Cristo: ¿seria Él el Mesias y el Hijo de Dios, o no? ¿De qué lado estamos?

 

Oración: Señor, haz que enviemos señales de tu Reino cumpliendo tu Ley de amor aqui y ahora. Amén.
