WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER?
Philippians 1: 1-11
Be devoted to one
another in fraternal love. Romans 12:10
José María Vargas Vila is considered to be a religiously
inspired novelist. In the prologue of one of his novels we find the phrase, “We
find the best testimony to human fraternity written by Cain with the jawbone of
an ass”.
We regret that the cited author had arrived at such a fateful and
colorless conclusion, but such is not the case.
Following the sentiment
of knowing oneself to be loved by another, true friendship, invoked in
fraternity, is the most profound experience one can have. Pleasant memories of
a Christian home; joyful occasions spent in a retreat; past years seated in the
classrooms; and lastly, not the least important is when we sing in each ecclesiastic celebration “We are united in faith”. Were we united?
Fraternity is an indispensable practice to give value to life. Like
the waters of the impetuous stream, human fraternity can produce an invincible
force.
Our world hasn’t taken, and isn’t taking the value of this sentiment
into account. The ancient question posed
by the Bible takes hold and we need to confront it: “Where is your brother?”
Prayer: Holy God, help us to
find our brothers and sisters and to love and serve you. Amen

¿DÓNDE ESTÁ TU HERMANO?

Amaos a los otros con amor fraternal…

José María Vargas Vila es
considerado como un novelista de religiosa inspiración. En una de sus novelas
encontramos, a manera de prólogo, esta frase: “el mejor testimonio de
fraternidad humana, lo escribió Caín con la quijada de un asno”.
Lamentamos que el citado escritor haya llegado a
una conclusión tan fatídica y poco estimuladora, pero ese no es el caso.
Después del sentimiento de saberse querido por alguien,
la verdadera amistad y más que ésta la fraternidad, es la experiencia profunda
que cualquiera puede tener. Recuerdos gratos de un hogar cristiano; de tiempos
de alegría en un Campamento, los años pasados en las aulas; y no por últimos
menos importantes; cuando en cada celebración eclesial cantamos: “unidos
estamos en la fe” ¿estábamos unidos?
La fraternidad es una práctica indispensable para
que la vida valga la pena. Igual que las aguas del impetuoso arrollo, la
fraternidad humana puede producir una fuerza invencible.
El mundo nuestro no ha tomado ni está tomando en
cuenta el valor de este sentimiento. La pregunta tan antigua como la Biblia,
toma fuerza y tenemos que enfrentarla. “¿Dónde está tu hermano?”
Oración: Dios Santo, ayúdanos a encontrar a nuestro hermano o a nuestra hermana
y a amarte y servirte. Amén.
