REFLECTIONS ON PSALM 150
PSALM 150
“Praise him with the sound of the horn…”
Psalm 150:3
Recent Sunday Bible studies steeped us
with knowledge and inspirations from brothers, and from tireless pastors like
Adolfo Ham, who frequently guided us in this activity. Thanks to everyone,
because we achieved some “why is it?” together. It’s this theme, precisely as
it should be, that we find in the last of the Psalms.
It caught our attention that worship with
instruments was emphasized, instead of action and thought, word or prayer, or
emotion or feeling, even noticing that music can epitomize all that; and
moreover, above all for its capacity to humanize any message and make it
contagious, harmonious, resonant with our most intimate nature, inexplicable
and mysterious in internal and social contexts.
In turn, music is intrinsically harmony,
order and rhythm, so that the construction of its impressions, phrases,
complete works, strains, notes, melodies, sounds or silences may be possible.
The message of the last Psalm speaks to us
of doing not only good works in and of themselves, but to do good works as well
for their harmony for human beings. Works we can feel, even without understanding. We are being asked to repay God for the
harmony he has given us with our own creation, that we may multiply it when we
praise him, thank him, or when we ask for his help, protection, or forgiveness.
Vitally for that, this psalm prays: “Praise
God in his sanctuary; praise him in the magnificence of his firmament…”
Prayer: Lord, let us worship you with music, may it
be pleasant to your ears. Amen.

SALMO 150
“Alabadle a son de bocina…”
Salmo 150:3
Recientes estudios bíblicos dominicales nos impregnaron saberes e
inspiraciones de hermanos, de pastores incansables como Adolfo Ham que nos guía
frecuentemente en esta actividad. A todos gracias porque juntos logramos
algunos “¿por qué?” Es este, precisamente, como debe ser, el último de los
Salmos.
Nos llamó la atención que se enfatizara la adoración con instrumentos
musicales, en lugar de la acción y el pensamiento, la palabra o la oración, la
emoción o el sentimiento, hasta percatarnos que la música puede resumir todo
ello; y aún más, sobre todo por su capacidad para humanizar cualquier mensaje,
hacerlo contagioso, armonioso, resonante con nuestra naturaleza más íntima,
inexplicable y misteriosa a lo interno y a lo social. A su vez, en su interior,
la música, es en sí misma todo armonía, orden y ritmo para que sea posible la
construcción de sus sentidos, frases, obras completas, acordes, notas,
melodías, sonidos o silencios.
El mensaje del último salmo nos habla de hacer obras no sólo buenas en sí
mismas, sino buenas también por su armonía para los seres humanos. Obras que
podamos sentir aún sin entender. Se nos pide que retribuyamos a Dios la armonía
que se nos ha dado con nuestra propia creación, que la multipliquemos cuando le
alabemos, le agradezcamos o cuando le pidamos ayuda, protección o perdón.
Vitalmente por ello este salmo reza: “Adorad a Dios en su santuario;
Alabadle en la magnificencia de su firmamento…”
Oración: Señor, permítenos alabarte con música, que sea grata
a tus oídos. Amén.
