THE HARVEST

ROMANS 5:3-5

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance.”

Romans 5:3

There is a story about a peasant who asked God for the ability to command nature so that, as he believed, his harvests would be better.  And God granted his request.  So when the peasant wanted it to rain lightly, it would.  When he asked for sun, it would shine.  If he needed torrential downpours, it would rain more.  But when harvest time arrived, he was totally astounded to see that it was a complete failure. Disconcerted and half annoyed, he asked God why this had happened, if he had done what he believed to be most appropriate.  God replied:  “You asked for what you wanted, instead of what was truly needed.  You never asked for storms, and those are most necessary for cleaning out the seeds, for scaring away the birds and the animals that consume them, and to purify them from the diseases that destroy them.”

The same thing happens to us.  We want for our lives to be pure love and tenderness, devoid of problems.  And we know that it is difficulties that make people grow and mature.  Sometimes there is a need for a true storm in a person’s life in order to make him understand how useless it was to worry so much about silly problems that are nothing but passing rain showers. The important thing is not to run away from the storms, but rather to trust that they will soon pass.

Prayer: Lord, help us to understand, even in the worst moments of our lives, that we can be blessed. Amen.

LA COSECHA

ROMANOS 5:3-5

“Y no sólo esto, sino que también nos gloriamos en las

tribulaciones, sabiendo que la tribulación produce paciencia”

Romanos 5:3

Cuentan que un día un campesino le pidió a Dios que le permitiera mandar en la naturaleza para que, según él, le rindieran  mejor sus cosechas. Y Dios se le lo concedió. Entonces cuando el campesino quería lluvia ligera, así sucedía. Cuando pedía sol, este brillaba,. Si necesitaba aguaceros, llovía mas. Pero cuando llegó el tiempo de la cosecha, fue grande su sorpresa, porque esta resultó ser un fracaso total. Desconcertado y medio molesto, le preguntó a Dios por qué paso esto, si él había hecho lo mejor que creía conveniente. Dios le contestó: “Tú pediste lo que quisiste, mas no lo que de verdad convenía. Nunca pediste tormentas, y estas son muy necesarias para limpiar la siembra, ahuyentar aves y animales que la consumen, y purificarla de plagas que la destruyen”

Así nos pasa. Queremos que nuestra vida sea puro amor y dulzura, nada de problemas. Y podemos afirmar que son las dificultades las que maduran a las personas y las hacen crecer. A veces hace falta una verdadera tormenta en la vida de una persona para hacerla comprender cuánto se ha preocupado por tonterías que son chubascos pasajeros. Lo importante no es huir de las tormentas, sino tener confianza en que pronto pasarán

Oración: Señor, Ayúdanos a entender que aun en los peores momentos de nuestras vidas, podemos ser bendecidos. Amén,
