WHAT KINGDOM IS THIS?
JOHn 18:28-40
“Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world.
If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
John 18:36
These words spoken by Jesus synthesize the
essence of his passage among us: the inauguration of a new and definitive
moment of the history in which violence is used as a means of ‘resolving’
life’s conflicts. I am certain that the same men and women who supported the
Teacher in the cleansing of the temple, when the merchants and the money
changers were attacked, were also willing to keep him from being arrested. And
yet Jesus did not approve this means, and he held Peter back in his force
against Malchus.
The new kingdom of Jesus was incomprehensible to
Pilate, to the high priest, and even to a large degree to his closest
disciples. The kingdom is so different that it has been interpreted in very
diverse forms throughout the history of humanity. I fervently believe that the
kingdom of God that was proclaimed, lived and announced in its fullness by
Jesus, is made up of any place or moment in which we are defending, living,
and/or dreaming of a better world; with a new and better way of relating to one
another without violence or ambition as the means to achieve “success” or
“prosperity”. This is the kingdom of God
which we should have in sight in order to walk through this life with purpose
and meaning.
Prayer: Jesus,
we pray that, in this time of waiting for your resurrection, you would make us
worthy proclaimers of your eternal and true kingdom.

no es de aquí”

Estas palabras de Jesús
sintetizan cuál fue la esencia de su paso entre nosotros: la inauguración de un
nuevo y definitivo momento de la historia en el que se desecha la violencia
como vía de “resolución” de los conflictos que se presentan en la vida. Estoy
seguro de que los mismos hombres y mujeres que apoyaron al Maestro en la
limpieza del templo, en la que arremetieron contra los mercaderes y cambistas,
también estaban dispuestos a evitar que se lo llevaran detenido. Sin embargo
Jesús no aprobó esta vía, y detuvo a Pedro en su ímpetu contra Malco.
El nuevo reino de Jesús no podía ser entendido
ni por Pilato, ni por el sacerdocio, ni siquiera en profundidad por sus más
allegados discípulos y discípulas. Es un reino tan diferente que ha sido
interpretado de muy diversas formas a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad.
Yo creo fervientemente que el reino de Dios proclamado, vivido y anunciado en
su plenitud por Jesús, es todo espacio y momento en el que defendamos, vivamos
y/o soñemos un mundo mejor, con una nueva y buena manera de relacionarnos que
deseche la violencia y la ambición como vías para lograr el “éxito” o
“prosperidad”. Es ese reino de Dios lo que debemos poner en la mira para
caminar por esta vida con un sentido.
Oración: Te pedimos Jesús, que en este tiempo de espera por
tu resurrección, nos hagas dignos proclamadores y proclamadoras de tu reino
eterno y verdadero.
