REST STOPS WHICH DO US GOOD

PSALM 19

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”

James 4:8

A tourist guide accompanied a group of foreigners who were visiting our country. Everywhere they went she showed them our beautiful landscapes. And so that they wouldn’t miss anything, she invited them to take a rest stop quite often so that they could take their time to admire the view, and they were fascinated.

Without doubt we, too, should take a rest stop during our hectic lives, not only to admire creation, but also to praise the Creator.  Reading the Psalms is a good start, because they invite us to meditate upon and remember his marvelous works.

Another way to accomplish this is through prayer, since in that way we can make our needs known to Him, give Him thanks for multiple blessings, and ask for His help. We have communion with Him in this way. And another way we can approach God is through our actions. That is, by working for justice, mercy, and solidarity. This is a very effective manner of approaching Him. It is an active “rest stop” in which our collaboration becomes a visible sign of God’s presence. Don’t think these respites are worthless; I assure you they’re worth the trouble, above all because through them we can gather the strength to continue with our pilgrimage in this world into which God has placed us to construct with Him a kingdom of justice, love and peace.  

Prayer:  Help us, God, to take the rest stops we need every day. Let them be for us a source of great help and fortitude in you. Amen.

SALMO 19

“Acercaos a Dios, y él se acercará a vosotros”

Santiago 4:8

Una guía acompañaba a un grupo de extranjeros que visitaban nuestro país.  En todo el trayecto les hacía descubrir paisajes hermosos de nuestra naturaleza. Para no perderse nada, muy a menudo ella los invitaba a detenerse para que se tomaran su tiempo admirando, y así ellos quedaban fascinados.

Sin duda nosotros también deberíamos, en medio de la vida ajetreada que tenemos, detenernos un momento, no solamente para admirar la creación, sino también para alabar al Creador. Para eso leer los Salmos es un buen comienzo, pues ellos nos invitan a meditar y a recordar sus maravillosas obras.

Otra manera de hacerlo es mediante la oración, pues así podemos exponerle nuestras necesidades, darle las gracias por sus múltiples bendiciones, y pedir su guía. Así tenemos comunión con Él. Y una última manera en que podemos acercarnos a Dios es actuando, es decir, obrando justicia, misericordia, solidaridad. Esta será una manera muy efectiva para acercarnos a él. Será una “parada” activa, en la que nuestra colaboración será un signo visible de la presencia de Dios.  No pensemos que esas paradas son inútiles. Les aseguro que valen la pena, sobre todo porque así podemos tomar fuerzas para continuar con nuestro peregrinar en este mundo en el que Dios nos ha puesto, para construir con él un reino de justicia, amor y paz.

Oración: Ayúdanos Dios, a hacer los altos que necesitamos todos los días. Permite que ellos puedan sernos de gran ayuda y fortaleza en ti. Amén.
