THE BEST RESOURCE IS PRAYER
PSALM 107
“Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved
them from their distress”
Psalm 107:19
King Herod had killed the apostle James by the sword, and
when he saw that the people were pleased with that, he went on to arrest and
imprison the apostle Peter also. When they learned of this, some of the
believers took action, not to prepare a plan of escape or to complain to the
Tribune, but to pray fervently.
Those prayers went seemingly unanswered, because the king
had decided to publicly execute Peter the following day on the occasion of a
holiday. But that night, an angel sent by God freed his servant from his
chains, made him pass through the soldiers who were guarding him, and opened
the doors of the jail. Then Peter went to those who were still praying, but they
were incredulous and could not believe God’s response.
It may be that God only answers the prayers of his children
at the last moment. God wants to show us his power and to strengthen our faith.
Family prayer and collective prayer find marvelous promises in the Bible. Pray
in your personal devotions, but do not abandon communal prayer either, for that
widens our perspective as beings sensitive to the pain of our other brothers
and sisters. Let us not underestimate the power of communal prayer, for we can
all certainly bear witness to its power.
Prayer: Father, we ask that you sustain us in the constant prayer that
causes us never to lose hope. Amen.

MEJOR RECURSO ES LA ORACIÓN
SALMO 107
“Clamaron al Señor en su angustia,
y los libró de sus aflicciones”
Salmo 107:19
El rey Herodes había matado a
espada al apóstol Santiago. Al ver que eso había agradado al pueblo, procedió a
detener y encarcelar también al apóstol Pedro.
Cuando se enteraron de esa
noticia, algunos creyentes se movilizaron, no para preparar un plan de evasión
o para quejarse ante el tribunal, sino para orar fervientemente.
Al parecer esas oraciones no
dieron ningún resultado, porque el rey había decidido la ejecución de Pedro
ante el pueblo al día siguiente con motivo de una fiesta. Pero esa noche un
ángel enviado por Dios liberó a su siervo de las cadenas, hizo que pasase
delante de los soldados de la guardia y
le abrió las puertas de la cárcel. Entonces Pedro fue a esos creyentes que
seguían orando, pero ellos incrédulos no podían creer la respuesta del Señor.
Puede suceder que Dios sólo
responda a la oración de sus hijos e hijas en el último momento. Él quiere
mostrarnos su poder y que reforcemos nuestra confianza en Él. La oración en
familia y la oración colectiva encuentran maravillosas promesas en la Biblia.
Ore en sus devociones personales diarias, pero no deje tampoco de orar en
comunidad, pues esto nos abre las perspectivas como seres sensibles ante el
dolor de otros hermanos y hermanas. No
desestimemos el valor de la oración comunitaria, sin dudas todos podemos dar
testimonio de su poder.
Oración: Oramos a ti Padre, pidiéndote que nos mantengas en la
oración constante, esa que no nos deja nunca desmayar. Amén
