Anniversary of the IPR in Placetas

JAMES 2:14-17

Many times when our local sessions or the presbyteries meet – and even in the Synod itself – we award work projects, whether they be about construction or whatever other sort, that incredibly are unanimously approved. However, on soliciting volunteers to assume those duties, a scant few initially respond. People chew it over, silently analyzing it, saying to themselves, “I can’t, I have a lot of work at the office, at home, I have small children.  No way, besides, everything is so hard to get and to manage. Transport to get around is very bad. There's no way, I simply can’t. Let the others do it."  Have they stopped to think about what would become of our church if everyone attending the meetings thought this way?

In the completion of his mission Jesus never backed away from the hardships, persecutions, or before the uncertainty of the cross itself. The fact of being Christ’s disciples implies the willingness to be “workers of the word, and not just listeners,”even when doing God's will implies a sacrifice of time, comfort, interests, and even of life itself.

A disciple, upon renouncing everything for Christ, begins his tasks with good will, joy and courage, despite any obstacle, and he thus honors Christ.

Prayer:  Lord, give us wisdom to live every day. Teach us to live your Gospel in a responsible assuming our responsibilities with humility. Amen.

“Así también  la fe, si no tiene obras,

es fe muerta en sí misma”

Santiago 2:17

Muchas veces cuando nuestros consistorios locales o los Presbiterios se reúnen,  y hasta  en el mismo Sínodo, acordamos proyectos de trabajo, sea de construcción, o de cualquier otra índole, que increíblemente son aprobados por unanimidad. Sin embargo, al solicitar voluntarios para que asuman la atención a estas tareas, no son muchos los que responden desde el primer momento. Las personas lo piensan, lo analizan en silencio, se dicen a sí mismos:  “Yo no puedo, yo tengo mucho trabajo en la oficina, en mi casa, tengo niños pequeños. Que va, además en estos momentos todo se hace muy difícil de conseguir, de gestionar. El transporte para moverse está muy malo. No que va, yo no puedo. Que lo hagan los demás”. ¿Se han puesto a pensar que sería de nuestra Iglesia si todos  los asistentes a las reuniones pensaran así?

Jesús en el cumplimiento de su misión, nunca retrocedió ante penalidades, persecuciones o ante la misma incertidumbre  de la cruz. El hecho de ser discípulos de Cristo implica la disposición a ser “hacedores de la palabra y no tan solamente oidores”, aunque el hacer la voluntad divina implique sacrificio de tiempo, comodidades,  intereses y aun de la vida misma.

El discípulo, al renunciar a todo por Cristo, emprende sus tareas con buena voluntad, gozo y  valor, a pesar de cualquier obstáculo. Así honra a Cristo.

Oración: Señor danos sabiduría para vivir cada día. Enséñanos a vivir tu evangelio de una manera responsable, haciendo lo que nos toca hacer y con humildad. Amén.
