SHRILL NOISES

EZEKIEL 33:32

“For God does speak–now one way, now another–though man may not perceive it.”

Job 33:14

During the time of religious intolerance when in various countries of Europe people were burned at the stake, drums were often beaten to drown out the last testimony of martyrs who were dying for their faith in Jesus Christ. It was feared that the executioners might hear these final testimonies.

Today, there are many people who willingly allow the voice of their conscience to be drowned out by the noises and turmoil of this world. In the whirlwind of work and distraction, many remain deaf to the call of God’s grace. Nonetheless, the Lord loves them. He desires to free them from the path of evil, to take them out of their moral despair or simply from their indifference, through faith in Jesus Christ. He wants to counsel them, so that they may enjoy a life that is holy, healthy, upright, happy and pure.  But there is too much noise to hear the Lord’s voice. And that’s probably why God sometimes has to speak very firmly and loudly.

Let us try to not further drown out the voice of the one who offers pardon, peace of heart and perfect heavenly happiness, all by his grace.

Prayer: Christ, help us to listen to your voice without wanting to stifle it in the shrill noises of this world. Help us to keep quiet so that our ears may be more attentive and so that others also may hear.  Amen.

EZEQUIEL 33:32

“En una o en dos maneras habla Dios;

pero el hombre no entiende”

Job 33:14

En la época de la intolerancia religiosa, cuando en diversos países de Europa se encendían las hogueras, a veces se recurría a los redobles de tambores para ahogar la voz de los mártires que morían por su fe en Jesucristo. Se temía que su último testimonio fuese oído por los asistentes al suplicio.

En la actualidad existen muchas personas que voluntariamente ahogan la voz de su conciencia en los ruidos y la agitación del mundo. En el torbellino de las ocupaciones y las distracciones, muchos permanecen sordos al llamado de la gracia de Dios. Sin embargo, el Señor los ama. Quiere liberarlos del mal camino, sacarlos de su desesperación moral o simplemente  de su despreocupación, por medio de la fe en Jesucristo. Él quiere aconsejarlos, que disfruten de una vida santa, sana, recta, feliz y pura. Pero hay demasiado ruido para poder escuchar la voz del Señor. Y es probablemente por eso que a veces Dios se ve obligado a hablar muy fuerte y alto.

No tratemos de ahogar más la voz de aquel que ofrece el perdón, la paz del corazón, la felicidad perfecta en el cielo, y todo eso por su gracia.

Oración: Cristo, ayúdanos a escuchar tu voz sin quererla ahogar por los ruidos estridentes de este mundo. Ayúdanos a hacer silencio para que nuestros oídos estén más atentos y para que otros también puedan escucharte. Amén.
