CHILDREN OF GOD

1 JOHN 3:1-5

See what love the Father has given us,

that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.

The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (NRSV)

1 John 3:1

When we look at today’s world, without a doubt we can ask if there really is such a thing as love. All around us we see signs that we are living in a world without love. Everything seems to say that love only exists in television soap operas and that in real life true love is almost never achieved. Is that true? Of course, it is possible to find love, although often it is transient.

But the Bible tells us about true love, which remains when everything else disappears, which never fails despite our frustrations, disappointments and endless testing. In reading today’s text, we become aware of how great is the love that God showers on us because we really are his children.

Moreover, we are obliged to radiate that love, serving neighbors, practicing justice and living in joy and hope.

Prayer: Beloved God, may your love increase in us so that it may shine like the sun. Amen.

HIJOS E HIJAS DE DIOS

1 JUAN 3:1-5

Mirad cual amor nos ha dado el Padre,

para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios;

por esto el mundo no nos conoce,

porque no le conoció a él.

1 Juan 3:1

Cuando miramos el mundo de hoy, sin lugar a dudas nos podemos preguntar si realmente existe el amor.

Vemos a nuestro alrededor señales de que vivimos en un mundo sin amor. Todo parece indicar que el amor sólo existe en novelas del espacio televisivo y que en la vida real el amor verdadero casi nunca se logra. ¿Será así? Claro que es posible encontrar amor, aunque a menudo este sea pasajero.

Pero la Biblia nos habla del verdadero amor, el que permanece cuando lo demás desaparece, el que nunca falta a pesar de nuestras frustraciones, decepciones e infinidad de pruebas.

Al leer el texto de hoy podemos percatarnos de lo grande que es el amor que Dios derrama sobre nosotros porque realmente somos sus hijos e hijas.

También nosotros somos responsables de irradiar ese amor, sirviendo al prójimo, practicando la justicia y viviendo en alegría y esperanza.

Oración: Dios amado, que tu amor crezca en nosotros de tal manera que brille como el sol. Amén.
