NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

MARK 8:31-35

If Christ is in you, the Spirit is your life because of God’s righteousness,

 but the body is dead because of sin.

  Romans 8.11 CEB

Jesus taught his disciples that he had to suffer greatly:  rejection by the religious leaders, a violent death and a resurrection on the third day. 

Peter began to rebuke Jesus.  His imprudence surprises us; but have there not been occasions when we have doubted the work of God and when we have suggested another solution that looks more like our way of thinking?

We don’t have the right to criticize Peter.  We are tempted to think the same way.  This had been the temptation that Jesus conquered in the desert and that he was again to conquer in Gethsemane.  Jesus does not give in to it, nor should we, as his followers, give in.  Jesus, who was generally understanding and patient with his disciples, was severe on this occasion.  Denying oneself means to refuse to continue our natural inclination, as innocent as it may be, when it is contrary to the path that Christ has paved for us. Without fail, there is a great promise linked to these words:  those who walk by this path will see, even in this life, the power of the Kingdom of God.

Prayer:  Lord, show me the path that I must walk and give me sufficient courage to follow you.  Amen.

NUEVA VIDA EN CRISTO

MARCOS 8:31-35

Y si el Espíritu de aquel que resucitó a Jesús vive en ustedes,

el mismo que resucitó a Cristo dará nueva vida a sus cuerpos mortales por medio del Espíritu de Dios que vive en ustedes.                                        

  Romanos 8.11

Jesús enseñó a sus discípulos que era necesario que padeciese mucho: el rechazo por los dirigentes religiosos, una muerte violenta y una resurrección al tercer día.

Pedro comenzó a reprender a Jesús. Nos sorprende su imprudencia; pero ¿acaso no ha habido ocasiones cuando nosotros hemos puesto en duda la obra de Dios y le hemos sugerido otra solución que se asemeja más a nuestra manera de pensar?

No tenemos derecho a criticar a Pedro. Somos tentados a pensar así. Esta había sido la tentación que Jesús tuvo y conquistó en el desierto y que volvería a conquistar en Getsemaní. Jesús no cedería a ella ni tampoco nosotros como sus seguidores debemos ceder. Jesús, quien por lo general era comprensivo y paciente con sus discípulos, en esta ocasión fue severo. El negarse a sí mismo significa rehusar seguir alguna inclinación natural, por más inocente que sea, que es contraria a la senda que Cristo ha trazado para nosotros. Sin embargo, hay una gran promesa ligada a estas palabras: aquellos que transitan por esta senda verán realizado, aun en esta vida, el poder del Reino de Dios.

Oración: Señor, muéstrame la senda que he de transitar y dame el valor suficiente para seguirte. Amén.
