MORE THAN CONQUERORS

ROMANS 8:28-38

… If God is for us, who is against us?

An important foundation for the believer who hopes with confidence in the future, is that God is constantly working in all things for the good of those who love him.  Nothing that happens to us is outside of the sphere of providential care of our Father:  here, truly, there is a reason for joy and a foundation for hope as solid as a rock. 

Nevertheless, we should understand the good that God has promised for those who love him, according to God’s terms and not ours.  God knows that the greatest good for us is to know him and to enjoy his presence forever.  Therefore, to reach this final “good”, God can allow difficulties such as poverty, illness and pain to afflict us.  Our joy will come not from knowing that we will never face these difficulties—because surely, we will (v. 17), but from knowing that, no matter what the difficulty, our God of love is working to make us stronger and more faithful.  Paul describes those in whom God works in this form from a human point of view (those who love God) and from a divine point of view (those who are called according to his purpose, v. 28).

The “call” of God is not only the invitation to people who will embrace the Gospel, but also the true call to people so they might have a genuine relationship with God.

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for the sense of security which comes from you.  Place within me the desire to carry security to others through the preaching of your Word.  Amen.

… Si Dios es por nosotros, ¿quién contra nosotros?

Romanos 8.31b

Un fundamento importante para que el creyente espere con confianza el futuro, es que Dios está obrando constantemente en todas las cosas para el bien de los que le aman. Nada de las cosas que nos suceden está fuera de la esfera del cuidado providencial de nuestro Padre: aquí, verdaderamente, hay un motivo de gozo y un fundamento para la esperanza tan sólido como una roca.

Sin embargo, debemos entender el bien que Dios ha prometido para aquellos que le aman, según sus términos y no los nuestros. Dios sabe que el mayor bien para nosotros es conocerlo y disfrutar de su presencia por siempre. Por lo tanto, para producir este “bien” final, puede permitir que nos aflijan dificultades como la pobreza, la enfermedad y el dolor. Nuestro gozo provendrá no de saber que nunca enfrentaremos esas dificultades —porque seguramente las enfrentaremos (v. 17) sino de saber que, no importa cuál sea la dificultad, nuestro Dios de amor está obrando para hacernos personas más fuertes y con mucha fe. Pablo describe a aquellos para los cuales Dios obra de esa forma desde el punto de vista humano (los que le aman) y desde el punto de vista divino (los que son llamados conforme a su propósito, v 28).

El “llamado” de Dios no es solamente la invitación a que las personas abracen el evangelio, sino su verdadera convocatoria a las personas para que tengan una relación genuina con él.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por sentir la seguridad que viene de ti. Pon en mí el deseo de llevar seguridad a otros mediante la predicación de tu Palabra. Amén.
