HOPE AGAINST FATIGUE

ISAIAH 40:26-31

… he doesn’t grow tired or weary…

There are days when I get up practically asleep, wanting to rest more, the night not giving me enough time to sleep. The daily struggle, effort, and fatigue are always there.

In today’s text God speaks to Isaiah of strength, power, and virtue and these are necessary terms day by day. The crises that we face, the constant challenges, and the future disturb our lives. Maybe at times it scares us to think: what will happen tomorrow? Will I have the strength to face whatever comes?

Every day we move between two points: success and frustration; the believer in Christ must live trusting in the new hope that will come from the One who loved us first.

On the occasion of his grandson’s baptism Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote: “Christianity today lives in transition to a new era and it is possible that your faith will be disturbed by uncertainty about the future.”

Therefore, how refreshing is the last verse in this chapter: Those who wait on the Lord will have renewed strength.

Prayer: Give me today, O Lord, the strength that I need to live. Forgive me when fatigue makes me think you are far away. Thank you for always being at my side. Amen.

ESPERANZA CONTRA CANSANCIO

ISAÍAS 40:26-31

… no desfallece, ni se fatiga con cansancio…

Isaías 40:28

Hay días en los que me levanto  prácticamente dormido, quisiera descansar más, la noche no me alcanza para dormir. La lucha diaria, el esfuerzo, la fatiga vienen a nosotros constantemente.

En el texto leído Dios habla a Isaías de fuerza, poder y virtud y estos son términos necesarios en el día a día. Las crisis que enfrentamos, los desafíos constantes y el futuro conmueven nuestras vidas  y quizás en algunos momentos lleguemos a aterrorizarnos de pensar ¿qué pasará mañana? ¿tendré las fuerzas para enfrentar lo que venga?

Cada día nos movemos entre dos puntos: el éxito y la frustración; el creyente en Cristo ha de vivir confiado en que nuevas esperanzas vendrán de Aquel que nos amó primero.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer escribió en ocasión del bautizo de su nieto: “El cristianismo hoy vive en el tránsito de una nueva era y es posible que su fe se vea perturbada por la incertidumbre acerca del futuro.”

Entonces ¡qué refrescante resulta el último versículo de este capítulo: Los que esperan en Jehová tendrán nuevas fuerzas.

Oración: Dame hoy Señor, las fuerzas que necesito para vivir, perdóname cuando la fatiga me hace verte lejos. Gracias por estar siempre a mi lado. Amén.
