THE SURPRISES OF GOD

GEnesis 18:1-15

Is anything too hard for the Lord?  (NIV)

Haven’t we at times received a piece of news, that even for its being unbelievable, gives rise to laughter? That’s what happened to Sarah in this text, and to Abraham in the preceding chapter (Genesis 17: 17).

During Old Testament times if a woman was unable to bear descendants for her husband it was considered a divine curse; and an elderly woman like Sarah was well beyond her child bearing years. Nevertheless, for God all is possible. So then, if God sends us a message, even as absurd as it may seem to us, aren’t we inclined to return a laugh of disbelief despite our great faith? God in his sovereignty always directs, therefore we should act in response to that security. If we’re going to laugh, may it be from joy, acceptance, and gratitude when faced with the unexpected.

Let’s make room for God’s surprises in life; considering that we can’t limit him. He moves and acts freely. All is possible.

Prayer:  God of goodness, you who surprises us with your gifts, may we never lose the capacity of hope in you. May we smile with happiness at you. May your Spirit always move in us. Amen.

Las sorpresas de Dios

Génesis 18: 1-15

¿Hay acaso algo tan difícil que Dios no pueda hacerlo?

                                                                 Génesis 18:14 a

¿Alguna vez hemos recibido una noticia que ante la incredulidad nos ha provocado risa? Pues así sucedió con Sara en este texto y también con Abraham en el capítulo anterior (Génesis 17:17).

En tiempos del Primer Testamento si una mujer no podía darle descendencia a su esposo se consideraba una maldición divina. Por lo tanto, una mujer ya anciana como Sara, no tenía ninguna posibilidad. Sin embargo, para Dios todo es posible. Así que, si nos da una noticia, por muy absurda que nos parezca, no le devolvamos una risa de incredulidad, sino tengamos una gran fe. Dios en su soberanía siempre dispone y por eso debemos actuar en respuesta a esa seguridad. Si vamos a reír que sea de alegría, aceptación y gratitud ante lo inesperado.

Démosles espacio a las sorpresas de la vida. Tengamos siempre en cuenta que a Dios no podemos limitarle. Se mueve y actúa libremente. Todo le es posible.

Oración: Dios de bondad, tú que nos sorprendes con tus regalos, permite que nunca perdamos la capacidad de esperar en ti. Permite que podamos sonreírte de felicidad. Que tu Espíritu se mueva siempre en nosotros. Amén.
