A SMALL SEED

ISAIAH 54:1-5

 “And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.” (NRSV)

Matthew 2:6

Sometimes we feel insignificant, unable to face problems, useless or of little weight when the time comes to contribute our grain of sand to improve something in our life or in that of those around us, in our country, or in the world. That’s right, we feel as small as ants among the mechanisms of society, of the establishment, and of power. The Gospel tells us that great things come from the smallest, that although we feel tiny we are important, and that all that we can do, as minute as it may seem, can help to change the reality in which we live.

At other times we feel important, self-sufficient and in total control of everything around us. The Gospel calls us to be humble because it is in our humblest place that Christ is found. It is to that humility that we ought to pay attention because it is the manger where the seed of change germinates.

Neither insignificant nor superior, we are only that small seed which can sprout with humility in God’s earth.

Prayer: Thank you, good God, for giving us your Word. Help us to find in it your purpose for our lives; especially we ask you to join us in our effort to grow every day in our labors for your work. Amen,

UNA PEQUEÑA SEMILLA

ISAÍAS 54:1-5

En cuanto a ti, Belén, de la tierra de Judá, no eres la más

pequeña entre las principales ciudades de esa tierra, porque

de ti saldrá un gobernante que guiará a mi pueblo Israel.

Mateo 2:6

A veces nos sentimos insignificantes, incapaces de afrontar los problemas, inútiles o con escaso peso a la hora de aportar nuestro grano de arena para mejorar algo en nuestra vida o en la de los que nos rodean, la de nuestro país y la del mundo. Así es, nos sentimos tan pequeños como hormigas entre los mecanismos de la sociedad, de lo establecido y del poder.

El evangelio nos dice que de lo más pequeño surge lo grande, que, aunque nos sintamos ínfimos somos importantes, y que todo lo que podamos hacer, por mínimo que parezca, puede ayudar a cambiar la realidad en la que vivimos.

Otras veces nos sentimos muy importantes, autosuficientes y con total control de todo lo que nos rodea. El evangelio nos llama a ser humildes, porque es en nuestra parte más humilde donde se encuentra a Cristo. Es a esa humildad a la que debemos escuchar porque ese es el pesebre donde germina la semilla del cambio.

Ni insignificantes, ni superiores, sólo somos esa pequeña semilla que puede germinar con humildad en la tierra de Dios.

Oración: Gracias Dios bueno, por darnos tu Palabra. Ayúdanos a encontrar en ella tu propósito para nuestras vidas; especialmente te pedimos que nos acompañes en nuestro esfuerzo por crecernos cada día para el trabajo en tu obra. Amén.
