FOR OUR BOYS AND GIRLS

ISAIAH 9: 1-6

A child is born to us….

Isaiah 9: 6ª CEB

We generally use this text at Christmas and Epiphany, times in the liturgical calendar when we make the allusion to the child Jesus and when boys and girls in our churches prepare different activities to celebrate the presence of Christ among us.  However, in our daily lives the lives of boys and girls around us stop being a gift of God and permanent party, and we usually mistreat them and offer them words like “Be quiet!” “You only bring me problems!” “You always ruin everything!”  We also frighten them and manipulate them to our whim until we pour out our anger toward others on them, etc.

Isaiah speaks of the importance of the child, because in this moment the Assyrian Empire had taken Palestine and the fathers and mothers of the boys and girls died as a result of that bloody war.  The orphaned children teemed in the cities and were victims of a cruel marginalization.

As we look at Isaiah, we look also at the lives of our children in Cuba today and let us remember that their happiness and a better quality of life are in our hands.  Let us make the lives of boys and girls a permanent celebration.

Prayer: Lord, as far as it depends on me, may these boys and girls be able to live happily.  Thank you for your presence among us.  Amen.

ISAÍAS 9: 1-6

Porque un niño nos es nacido...

Isaías 9: 6ª

Este texto lo usamos generalmente en Navidad y Epifanía, épocas del calendario litúrgico dónde hacemos alusión al niño Jesús y dónde niños y niñas en nuestras iglesias preparan diferentes actividades para celebrar la presencia de Jesús entre nosotros. Sin embargo, en nuestra vida cotidiana la vida de los niños y las niñas que nos rodean deja de ser regalo de Dios y fiesta perenne,  pues solemos maltratarles y les proferimos palabras como: ¡Cállate!, ¡Sólo me traes problemas! ¡Siempre echas todo a perder! También les atemorizamos y manipulamos a nuestro antojo, y hasta descargamos nuestra ira con otros, en ellos etc.

Isaías habla de la importancia del niño, porque en ese momento el Imperio Asirio tomaba Palestina y los padres y madres de niños y niñas morían  producto de aquella guerra sangrienta. Los niños/as huérfanos/as pululaban en las ciudades y eran víctimas de una cruel marginación.

Echemos una mirada a Isaías, miremos también la vida de nuestra niñez en la Cuba de hoy y pensemos que su felicidad y su mejor calidad de vida están en nuestras manos. Hagamos de la vida de los niños y las niñas una festividad por siempre.

Oración: Señor, que en lo que dependa de mí que los niños y las niñas puedan vivir felices.  Gracias su presencia entre nosotros. Amén.
