TO BETHLEHEM

LUKE 2:8-20

Glory to God in heaven, and on earth peace

among those whom he favors.

Luke 2:14 CEB

In this season of the year when we remember the birth of the Messiah in a special way, we turn our gaze to Bethlehem, the village of humble shepherds, and we listen to an angel choir:  Glory to God in the highest! 

It is worthwhile to think about the child who did not have more than a manger for a bed, and to realize that God through the centuries has loved and has communicated first with the shepherds.  Jesus lived in the home of a humble carpenter.  His disciples were publicans and fishermen.  Many times we read this in the Bible, but don’t even internalize it in our lives.  At times we pay more attention to the decorations and lights of Christmas than to the message that God wants to send to us through this birth.  When we do this, we fail to truly praise God.

We should not forget those who, like the humble shepherds, are able to praise and glorify God with all their hearts at hearing the Good news of salvation:  Glory to God in the highest! This should be our prayer and our praise but from the values of humility and simplicity which the shepherds of little Bethlehem showed. 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the birth of Jesus.  Let him be born daily in our hearts.  Amen.

HASTA BELÉN

LUCAS 2:8-20

¡Gloria a Dios en la alturas, y en la tierra paz,

buena voluntad para con los hombres!

Lucas 2:14

En esta época del año en que de manera especial se recuerda el nacimiento del Mesías, volvamos nuestra mirada a Belén, la aldea de los sencillos pastores, y escuchemos el coro angelical:  ¡Gloria a Dios en lo alto!

Es provechoso pensar en el niño que no tenía más cuna que un pesebre, y darnos cuenta de que Dios en el trascurso de los siglos, ha amado y se ha comunicado en primera instancia con los humildes. Jesús vivió en el hogar de un humilde carpintero. Sus discípulos eran publicanos y pescadores. Muchas veces leemos esto en la Biblia, pero aún no lo interiorizamos en nuestras vidas. En ocasiones prestamos más atención a los adornos y el brillo de la Navidad que al mensaje que Dios nos quiere trasmitir con este nacimiento. Cuando hacemos esto dejamos de alabar verdaderamente a Dios.

No debemos olvidar a aquellos que, como los humildes pastores, están dispuestos a alabar y glorificar a Dios de todo corazón al escuchar las Buenas Nuevas de salvación:

¡Gloria a  Dios en alto! Esta debe ser nuestra oración y nuestra alabanza pero desde los valores de la humildad y la sencillez que mostraron los pastores de la pequeña Belén.

Oración: Gracias, Señor, por el nacimiento de Jesús. Permite  que cada día nazca en nuestros corazones. Amén.
