Christmas
TODAY IS CHRISTMAS
ISAIAH 52:7-10
How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good
news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

During the weeks of advent we have
prepared ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ birth. We set up the nativity and
rejoice at the arrival of this very special child. However, after the
celebration and the Merry Christmases, we feel emptiness: What is the meaning
of this celebration?
The messenger of this text recalls it
for us. He arrives walking rapidly, certainly elated because of the good news
he brings. In the midst of the people’s difficulties, he brings good news,
proclaims peace and salvation. He reminds Israel that Jehovah is the king, not
Marduk, the great god of the Babylonian Empire.
As Christians, we recognize the style of
Jesus in that ancient messenger. At Christmas we celebrate his arrival, his
life, his message, and his presence in our lives. What’s more, we believe that
we can all share in announcing life and transformation. When we answer God’s
call to live the good news of peace, justice, and salvation in Jesus, it’s
Christmas all year long.
Prayer: God, on this night of peace and love,
may this Christmas be filled with the peace and love of that first Christmas. May
the baby Jesus be at the center of our lives in this celebration and occupy
first place in our hearts. Amen.

HOY ES NAVIDAD
ISAÍAS 52:7-10
¡Qué hermoso es ver
llegar por las colinas al que trae buenas noticias, al que trae noticias de
paz, al que anuncia
liberación y dice a
Sión: Tu Dios es rey!

Durante las semanas
de Adviento nos hemos preparado para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesús. Armamos
el pesebre y nos alegramos por la llegada de ese bebé tan especial. Sin
embargo, pasado el brindis y los deseos de Feliz Navidad, solemos quedarnos en
vacío: ¿Qué sentido tienen al fin y el cabo, estas fiestas?
El mensajero de
nuestro texto nos lo recuerda. Llega andando rápido, seguramente contento por
las buenas noticias que trae. En medio de las dificultades del pueblo, anuncia
la paz, trae el bien y proclama la salvación. Le recuerda a Israel que Yahvé es
el rey, no lo es Marduk, el gran dios del imperio babilónico.
Como cristianos y
cristianas, en el andar de ese antiguo mensajero reconocemos el estilo de
Jesús. En la Navidad celebramos su llegada, su vida, su mensaje y su presencia
en nuestras vidas. Y es más, creemos que todos podemos colaborar en su anuncio
de vida y transformación. Cuando respondemos al llamado de Dios a vivir la
buena noticia de la paz, de la justica y de la liberación en Jesús, todo el año
es Navidad.
Oración: Dios, en esta noche
de paz y amor, te pido que esta Navidad esté llena de esa paz y ese amor que
tuvo la primera Navidad. Que el niño Jesús sea el centro de nuestras vidas en
estas fiestas y el primer lugar en nuestros corazones. Amén.
