SECRET PREPARATION
MARK 14:12-19
They
began to be distressed and to say to him one after another, “Surely, not I?”

The eleventh verse of this chapter
tells us that Judas, who had decided to betray his master after being offered
money, began to look for the best opportunity to hand him over. Jesus,
suspicious, sensed it. So, he decided that the preparation of the meal, his last
opportunity to be with all his disciples, would be carried out almost in secret.
The time of the supper couldn’t be interrupted by the Jewish authorities who
were prepared to seize him.
The evangelist John doesn’t recount
in the story of this night the traditional words known as the Institution of
the Lord’s Supper, but rather presents the episode of the washing of feet. It
was a lesson in humility, a mandate of absolute service without concern for
rank or hierarchy. Certainly, the greatest should be the one who serves most.
Thus, the disciples’ questions are
no surprise as they tried to find out who would be the traitor: they all asked,
“Is it I?” No one knows with certainty that they are one hundred percent
faithful. Peter himself, as impulsive as ever, declared that he could never
abandon him, but he also denied knowing him.
There are times that can test our
ability to be faithful. This unlimited faithfulness is the call of the writer of
Revelation: remain faithful even unto death . . .
Prayer: Blessed
Christ, in the darkest hours of your existence, you were able to share with
everyone and deliver sublime lessons from your ministry with us. May we follow
your example. Amen.

PREPARACIÓN A ESCONDIDAS
MARCOS 14:12-19
Ellos se pusieron muy tristes, y uno por
uno comenzó a preguntarle: ¿seré yo?

El
versículo once de este capítulo nos narra que Judas, quien había decidido
traicionar a su maestro bajo el ofrecimiento de dinero, andaba buscando la
mejor oportunidad para entregarlo. Jesús, sospecha, intuye. Por eso decide que
la preparación de la comida, esa última oportunidad con todos los discípulos
sería arreglada de modo casi secreto. El momento de la cena no debería ser
interrumpido por las autoridades judías que estaban listas para prenderle.
El
evangelista Juan no coloca en esta noche las palabras tradicionales de la
llamada Institución de la Cena del Señor, sino que presenta el episodio del
lavatorio de los pies. Lección de humildad, mandato de servicio absoluto sin
consideraciones de jerarquías. Ciertamente el "mayor" deberá ser el
que más sirve.
Por
eso no sorprenden las palabras interrogantes de los discípulos al conocer que
uno de ellos sería traidor, todos se cuestionan ¿seré yo? Porque nadie a
ciencia cierta se sabe fiel al cien por ciento. El propio Pedro, tan impulsivo
como otras veces, declaró que él no podría abandonarle, pero también le negó.
Hay
momentos que ponen a prueba nuestra capacidad de ser fieles. Esta fidelidad sin
límites es la llamada del escritor del Apocalipsis: -sé fiel hasta la muerte...
Oración: Bendito Cristo, en las horas más oscuras de tu
existencia, fuiste capaz de compartir con todos y dejarnos lecciones sublimes
de tu ministerio. Permite que sigamos ese ejemplo tuyo. Amén.
