LIGHTING THE PATH OF OTHERS

PSALM 119:105-107

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path

Psalm 119:105 (NRSV)

            I like it when we sing: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my way. And it is certain that for Christians this is reality, but how do we live it?

            The Word that is light challenges us, commits us, provokes us, makes us responsible with the risk of even loving the enemy. It calls us to witness in the darkest places where despair and injustice go hand in hand. By witnessing to God’s love for the ignored and forgotten, we make the Word light. We enlighten others by living responsibly with practice consistent with the divine mandate to love our neighbor.

            The church in its mission makes the Word of God a lamp and light for the community where God has put us to live it. Being a light in the city is more than a slogan; it is a profoundly serious commitment. I want to believe that God has given us these days of confinement because there are other places to illuminate. He wants us to practice other ways of being His church, to testify where we are. To be Sunday Christians only, is not what is expected.  Let us remember that Christ always wants us to shine for Him.

Prayer: Lord, let us never forget where to find sound doctrine, but above all Father, make us practice your commands so that we can be light amid the darkness.  

Amen.

ILUMINANDO EL CAMINO DE LOS OTROS.

SALMO 119:105-107

Lámpara es a mis pies tu palabra, y lumbrera a mi camino

Salmo 119:105

            Me gusta cuando  cantamos: Es tu palabra lámpara para mis pies y luz para mi camino. Y es preciso como cristianos que esto sea realidad, pero ¿cómo hacerlo?

            La Palabra que es luz nos interpela, nos compromete, nos provoca, nos responsabiliza con el riesgo de amar incluso al enemigo, nos llama al testimonio en los sitios más oscuros donde la desesperanza y la injusticia andan de la mano. Siendo testigos del amor de Dios por los ignorados y olvidados hacemos que la Palabra sea luz, iluminamos a otros al vivir responsablemente con una práctica coherentes con el mandato divino de amar al prójimo.

            La iglesia en su misión hace que la palabra de Dios sea lámpara y luz para la comunidad donde el Señor nos ha puesto a vivirla, ser una Luz en la Ciudad es más que un slogan, es un compromiso bien serio. Quiero creer que Dios nos ha dado estos días de confinamiento porque hay otros sitios que iluminar, quiere que practiquemos otras formas de ser su Iglesia, testificar allí donde estamos, ser cristianos de domingo no es lo que se espera,  recordemos que Cristo quiere siempre que brillemos para Él.

Oración: Señor que nunca olvidemos donde encontrar la sana doctrina, pero sobre todo Padre, haz que practiquemos tus mandatos para poder ser luz en medio de las tinieblas. Amén.
