 TO THE TABLE    

Luke 11:37-4

 

When Jesus had finished speaking, a Pharisee invited him to eat with him;  so he  went in and reclined at the table.

To invite Jesus to our table, to call him to come, is to invite him to come into our lives and stay close to us. Around the table, Jesus was anointed by a woman, was criticized by the Pharisees for sharing with sinners and tax collectors. Sitting at the table he dared to forgive sins, he knew disloyalty and lived the pain of knowing he was betrayed by one of those he had bet on. To ask Jesus to come and take a place at our table is to accept the challenge, the deep need to let ourselves be provoked by the Nazarene, just as he does with the Pharisee in this scene. It is to recognize what are those senseless things that prevent us from a true encounter with the Master in that sacred place that is life and where the hunger for bread converges with the hunger for justice and dignity; but it is to value that true thing that leads us to the encounter that equalizes, that humanizes, that makes life resurface from the complicity that liberates, that heals, that saves and that becomes gratitude, feast and blessing.

 

Prayer: Master, help us so that every day our tables may be free of ritualism and overflow with gestures and authentic words that nourish our lives.

A LA MESA

Lucas 11:37-41

Y luego que hubo hablado, rogóle un Fariseo que comiese con él: y entrado Jesús, se sentó a la mesa.

Invitar a Jesús a nuestramesa, llamarlo para que llegue, es convidarlo a que entre en nuestra vida y se quede cerca. Alrededor de la mesa, Jesús fue ungido por una mujer, criticado por los fariseos al compartir con pecadores y publicanos. Sentado a la mesa se atrevió a perdonar pecados, supo de deslealtad y vivió el dolor de saberse traicionado por uno de aquellos por los que habia apostado. Pedir que Jesús venga y tome lugar en nuestra mesa es aceptar el desafio, la necesidad profunda de dejarnos provocar por el nazareno, tal cual lo hace con el fariseo en ester escena. Es reconocer cuáles son aquellos sinsentidos que nos impiden un verdadero encuentro con el Maestro en ese lugar sagrado que es la vida y donde convergen el hambre de pan, con el hambre de justicia y dignidad; más es valorar aquello verdadero que nos lleva al encuentro que iguala, que humana, que hace que la vida resurja desde la complicidad que libera, que sana, que salva y que se torne gratitud, fiesta y bendición.

 

Oración: Maestro, ayúdanos para que cada dia nuestras mesas queden libres de ritualismos y rebosen de gestos y palabras auténticas que alimenten nuestras vidas. Amén
