THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH

Luke 11: 29- 32

For as Jonah a sign to the Ninevites, so too will the Son of Man be to this generation.  (NIV)

Luke 11: 30

Many looked for concrete proof and miracles as confirmation of Jesus’ authority. However, Jesus warns them that the only sign they will receive is that of the prophet Jonah. This reference refers to the death and resurrection of Jesus, which would be the definitive sign of his identity as the Son of God. He also compares his generation to the queen of the South and the Ninevites. The queen of the South traveled from afar to hear the wisdom of King Solomon, recognizing his greatness. Similarly, the Ninevites repented when Jonah preached to them, responding to his message with repentance. Jesus claims that, in comparison, he is greater than Solomon and Jonah, and yet his generation does not show the same faith and repentance.

So, this passage challenges us to examine our attitude toward faith. Do we look for concrete signs before believing in God and his Word? Or are we willing to trust in Jesus and his redemptive work on the cross? Genuine faith is not based on visible signs, but on complete trust and certainty in God. Therefore, Jesus invites us to believe in him and in his message of salvation, even if we do not see spectacular miracles or visible signs. True faith is based on trust in the word of God and in the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross. God accompanies us; God acts in our midst and through us, although sometimes we do not see it. His love for us is incomparable and sublime.

 

Prayer: Lord, help us today to discover your signs in our daily lives. Help us to fully trust you. Strengthen our faith and transform our lives. In the name of Jesus we ask you. Amen

LA BÚSQUEDA DE SEÑALES Y LA IMPORTANCIA DE  LA FE 

Lucas 11: 29- 32

Porque, así como Jonás fue sepal de  los  ninivitas, también lo  será el hijo del hombre a esta  generación.

Muchos buscaban pruebas concretas y milagros como una confirmación de la autoridad de Jesús. Sin embargo, Jesús les advierte que la única señal que recibirán es la del profeta Jonás. Esta referencia se refiere a la muerte y resurrección de Jesús, que sería la señal definitiva de su identidad como el Hijo de Dios. También compara su generación con la reina del Sur y los ninivitas. La reina del Sur viajó desde lejos para escuchar la sabiduría del rey Salomón, reconociendo su grandeza. De manera similar, los ninivitas se arrepintieron cuando Jonás les predicó, respondiendo a su mensaje con arrepentimiento. Jesús afirma que en comparación, Él es mayor que Salomón y que Jonás, y sin embargo su generación no muestra la misma fe y arrepentimiento

Por lo que este pasaje nos desafía a examinar nuestra actitud hacia la fe. ¿Buscamos señales concretas antes de creer en Dios y su Palabra? ¿O estamos dispuestos a confiar en Jesús y en su obra redentora en la cruz? La fe genuina no se basa en señales visibles, sino en una confianza y certeza total en Dios. Por ello Jesús nos invita a creer en Él y en su mensaje de salvación, incluso si no vemos milagros espectaculares o señales visibles. La verdadera fe se basa en la confianza en la Palabra de Dios y en la obra redentora de Jesús en la Cruz. Dios nos acompaña, Dios actúa en medio nuestro y a través de nosotros, aunque a veces no lo veamos. Su amor por nosotros es incomparable y sublime.

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos hoy a descubrir tus señales en lo cotidiano. Ayúdanos a confiar plenamente en ti. Fortalece nuestra fe y transforma nuestras vidas. En el nombre de Jesús te lo pedimos, amén.
