PRAY, IN ORDER TO WORK TOGETHER WITH GOD

1 THESSALONIANS 5

Be joyful always; pray continually…

1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

In prayer, we model our will according to God and we thus participate in the realization of his will. We need for the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of believers and to give us the grace to collaborate with God and to participate in his mission and project of unity.

As we pray without ceasing for this, we are conscious that more work is needed for the harvest. David, surprised at being chosen by the Lord to participate in building a splendid temple, asked: Could God indeed live on earth?  And he concluded: “You now wish to bless the house of your servant, so that I will always remain in your presence.”

The psalmist pleads: “Lord, teach me your way, so that I can be faithful to you; guide my heart, so that I will fear your name.  Lord my God, I will give you thanks with all my heart, I will give glory to your name forever”.

By sending out his disciples, Jesus confirms that because of them and of all those who will believe in him through his Word, his peace and the good news that is declared that “the Kingdom of God has come to us” will be announced to the world.  When his disciples return with contentment, even though they experienced rejection, Jesus rejoices because of their successes in subduing demons:  it is necessary to continue extending the news, without delay.

God wants for his people to become one.  Like with the Christians of Thessalonica, we are exhorted to be “always joyful” and to pray “without ceasing,” holding on to the hope that unity will at last be attained according to his will if we fully commit ourselves to collaborate with God.

Prayer:   Lord God, in the perfect unity of your being, keep the burning desire and the hope of unity in our hearts, so that we may never stop working in the service of your Gospel.  We ask for this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

ORAD PARA COLABORAR CON DIOS

Estad siempre alegres. No ceséis de orar

1 Tesalonicenses  5:16-17

En la oración modelamos nuestra voluntad según Dios y participamos así en la realización de su deseo. Tenemos necesidad de que el Espíritu Santo cambie el corazón de los creyentes y nos dé la gracia de colaborar con Dios y participar en su misión y proyecto de unidad. Mientras pedimos sin cesar por eso, somos conscientes de que son necesarios más obreros para la cosecha. David, sorprendido de ser elegido por el Señor para participar en la edificación de un espléndido templo, afirma: ¿De verdad Dios podrá vivir sobre la tierra? Y concluye: “Quieres ahora bendecir la casa de tu criado, para que permanezca siempre en tu presencia”.  El salmista ruega: “Señor, enséñame tu camino, para que te sea fiel, guía mi corazón para que tema tu nombre. Señor Dios mío, te daré gracias de todo corazón, daré gloria a tu nombre por siempre”.

En el envío de los discípulos, Jesús confirma que gracias a ellos y a todos los que creerán en él a través de su Palabra, su paz y la buena noticia que declarará que “el Reino de Dios ha llegado hasta nosotros” serán anunciadas al mundo. Cuando sus discípulos vuelven contentos de nuevo, aunque también traen la experiencia del rechazo, Jesús se alegra de sus éxitos al someter los demonios: es necesario seguir extendiendo la noticia, sin detenerse. Dios quiere que su pueblo sea uno. Como a los cristianos de Tesalónica, se nos exhorta a ser “siempre alegres”  y a orar “sin cesar”, manteniendo la esperanza de que, si nos comprometemos plenamente a colaborar con Dios, se realizará por fin la unidad según su voluntad.

Oración  Señor Dios, en la perfecta unidad de tu ser, guarda en nuestros corazones el ardiente deseo y la esperanza de la unidad para que nunca dejemos de trabajar al servicio de tu Evangelio. Te lo pedimos por Jesucristo nuestro Señor. Amén.
