RESTORATION

EZEKIEL 11:14-21

They will return to it

and remove all the vile images and detestable idols.

Ezekiel 11:18

God is always the same, but people have experienced his manifestations in different ways. In Moses’ day, God placed his laws on stone tablets. Perhaps the people of that time had no spiritual resource to preserve them. They also needed to come together as a people, and to consolidate their relationship with God. Preserving God’s laws is something that comes from the heart.

We trust that God always offers a new spirit and a new heart capable of keeping his laws. But one doesn’t keep God’s laws from a sense of obligation. This is an act of obedience that flows from the heart.

Perhaps keeping God’s laws will one day become a way of life, not something one does to avoid punishment. God has given us a new heart in submissiveness to Him. In baptism, in the Holy Spirit, he has given us the strength to live for Him.

Jesus said that he hadn’t come to the world to abolish the law, rather, to complete it. It’s difficult for us to fulfill the law of love over hate; the law of peace over violence; the law of justice over injustice; the law of solidarity over self-centeredness; the law of life over sin and death.

Fortunately, our obedience to God is not a product of our strength, but of his presence in our lives. When we resolve to obey God, his Spirit will give us the necessary strength to treasure his precious law.  

Prayer:  Father, let your laws be written upon our hearts with indelible ink, so that we can live joyfully in obedience to them. Through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

EZEQUIEL 11 .14-21

Y volverán allá, y quitarán de ella todas sus idolatrías

y todas sus abominaciones

Ezequiel 11:18

Dios es siempre el mismo, pero los pueblos han vivido sus manifestaciones de diferentes maneras. En la época de Moisés, Dios puso sus leyes en tablas de piedra. En ese momento quizás el pueblo no tenía poder espiritual para guardarlas. Aún necesitaban cohesionarse como pueblo y consolidar su relación con Dios. El guardar las leyes de Dios es algo que sale del corazón.

Confiamos en que Dios siempre ofrece un nuevo espíritu y un nuevo corazón, capaz de guardar sus leyes. Pero las leyes de Dios no se guardan como obligación. Esta es una obediencia que brota del corazón.

Quizás algún día el guardar las leyes de Dios se volverá una forma de vivir, no algo que se hace para evitar el castigo. Dios nos ha dado un nuevo corazón rendido a Él. En el bautismo, en el Espíritu Santo, nos ha dado  poder para vivir por Él.

Jesús dijo que él no había venido al mundo para abolir la ley, sino para hacerla cumplir. Es difícil para nosotros cumplir la ley del amor sobre el odio, la ley de la paz sobre la violencia, la ley de lo justo sobre la injusticia, la ley de la solidaridad sobre el egoísmo, la ley de la vida sobre el pecado y la muerte.

Afortunadamente nuestra obediencia a Dios no es producto de nuestra fortaleza, sino de su presencia en nuestra vida. Cuando resolvemos obedecer a Dios, su Espíritu nos dará la fortaleza que necesitamos para atesorar su preciosa ley.

Oración: Padre, permite que tus leyes se graben en nuestro corazón con tinta indeleble y que podamos vivir cumpliéndolas con alegría. Por el poder de tu Espíritu Santo.  Amén.
