Let’s Be Heralds

Mark 1:1-8

“the voice of one crying out in the wilderness; ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”

Mark 1:3 (NRSV)

            A herald is one who proclaims news. In this Advent, we are called to be heralds. As daughters and sons of the God of hope, it is up to us to be the voice that cries in the wilderness proclaiming the coming of our Lord. It is up to us to prepare the way for the child who is born for all the world’s creatures.

            In 2020 the deserts from which to cry have multiplied.  At the end of March, the first cases of Covid-19 infection in our country were announced. With this came isolation, fear of contagion, and pain from the breaking news that came through the networks. In addition, the sharpening of material shortages left little room for hope.  Before all these deserts, it is urgent to be heralds of good news, living this advent with greater impetus to proclaim Jesus. We proclaim Jesus not only with our voices but with gestures of solidarity that transcend hope; with willingness to accompany others, and yet others to cross their deserts. We have always the certainty that Jesus Christ comes into our lives, accompanies us and sustains us.

 

Prayer: Strengthen us Jesus to announce your good news in this advent. Amen.

Seamos Heraldos

Marcos 1:1-8

Voz del que clama en el desierto: Preparad el camino del Señor; enderezad sus sendas

Marcos 1:3

            Un heraldo es quien proclama noticias. En este Adviento, estamos llamado a ser heraldos. Como hijas e hijos de un Dios que es esperanza, nos corresponde ser la voz que clama en el desierto, anunciando la llegada de nuestro Señor; nos corresponde prepararle el camino al niño que nace para todas las criaturas de este mundo.

            En este 2020 se han multiplicado los desiertos desde donde clamar. Desde finales de marzo, en nuestro país se anunciaron los primeros casos contagiados con la Covid-19 y, con ello, el aislamiento, el miedo al contagio, el dolor frente a las noticias desoladoras que nos llegaban por las redes, además de la agudización de las carencias materiales, dejando asíí poco espacio para la esperanza.  Ante todos estos desiertos, urge ser heraldos de buena noticia, viviendo este Adviento con mayor ímpetu, anunciando a Jesús no solo con nuestras voces, sino con gestos solidarios que trasmitan esperanza y disposición para acompañar a otras y otros a cruzar sus desiertos, siempre con la certeza de que Jesucristo viene a nuestra vida, nos acompaña y nos sostiene.

 

Oración: Fortalécenos Jesús para anunciar tu buena nueva en este Adviento. Amén.
