RAISING HOLY HANDS

1 Timothy 2:1-8

I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument;

1 Timothy 2:8 (NRSV)

            Our hands have a lot to do with the effectiveness of prayer.  Prayer is more doing than talking.  There are actions of humans that stain their hands and there are actions that sanctify them. It seems that God hears the hands and preferentially understands the language they speak when we pray.

            To convince Thomas, the doubting disciple, the risen Lord said to him: Look at my hands. The hands are very eloquent.

            The Apostle Paul expresses his desire that people pray in every place, raising up holy hands. It is about hands that are raised everywhere. The holy hands lifted to God in prayer are the busy hands that work every day in all human activities, at the impulse of a heart in which the spirit of God dwells and governs.

            The anger and strife harbored in the heart and manifested in conduct stain the hands, and render them incapable of being raised in prayer before God. If you are aware that your hands serve your brothers and sisters and pray to your God in the same action, then you can be sure that God hears and attends to the prayer from your lips. A good decision is this: I will identify my daily conduct more and more with my life of prayer before God.

 

Prayer: Lord and our Father, give me the power and grace to remove anger from my heart, and strife from my life. May I truly love and serve both  people I like and  dislike on this day. Give me that triumph over myself. Then I will raise holy hands before you when I pray everywhere. Amen.

LEVANTANDO MANOS SANTAS

1 Timoteo 2:1-8

Quiero, pues, que los hombres  oren en todo lugar, levantando manos santas, sin ira ni contiendas.

1 Timoteo 2:8

            Nuestras manos d tienen mucho que ver con la efectividad de sus oraciones. La oración es más hacer que hablar. Hay acciones de la humanidad que manchan sus manos y hay acciones que las santifican. Parece que Dios oye a las manos y entiende preferentemente el idioma que ellas hablan cuando oramos.

            Para convencer a Tomás, el discípulo incrédulo, el Señor resucitado  le dijo: Mira mis manos. Las manos son muy elocuentes.

            El Apóstol Pablo nos expresa su deseo de que los hombres oren en todo lugar, levantando manos santas. Se trata de manos que se alzan en todo lugar. Las manos santas para levantar ante Dios en oración son las manos ocupadas que trabajan cada día en todas las actividades humanas, al impulso de un corazón en el cual mora y gobierna el espíritu de Dios.

            La ira y la contienda albergadas en el corazón y manifestadas en la conducta, manchan las manos y la incapacitan para ser levantadas en oración ante Dios. Si estás consciente de que tus manos sirven  a tus hermanos y oran a tu Dios en una misma acción, entonces puedes estar seguro de que Dios oye y atiende la oración de tus labios. Una buena decisión  es esta: identificaré más y más mi conducta diaria con mi vida de oración ante Dios.

 

Oración: Señor y Padre nuestro, dame el poder y la gracia de quitar de mi  corazón la ira y de mi vida la contienda. Que pueda amar de verdad y servir de verdad en este día  a las personas que me agradan y a las que no me agradan. Dame ese triunfo sobre mí mismo. Entonces levantaré manos santas delante de ti cuando ore en todo lugar. Amén.
