Anniversary of the dependent church “Ebenezer” (Encrucijada)

ONLY GOD IS PERFECT

Matthew 7:1-5

Judge not, so as not to be judged.

            The Iliad is one of the masterpieces of world literature. It is the story of the Trojan war, written by Homer. The legend states that Achilles was invincible, only his heel was vulnerable, because his mother–the goddess of the sea–had held him by his foot when submerging him in the Styx lagoon. After avenging his friend Patroclus in battle, he is hit by an arrow shot by Paris, guided by the god Apollo, that hit Achilles’ heel, causing his fall and death.

            It is not our intent to narrate such a great work in a few lines, just to point out that we all have an Achilles’ heel. Perfection is not achievable. There is nothing easier than highlighting other people’s defects without stopping to assess our own.

            The Sermon on the Mount is very clear, it states: Hypocrite, first remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see well to remove the chaff from your brother’s eye. Unfortunately, we are not perfect, we make mistakes and there are always vulnerable traits in our personality and actions that expose our weaknesses and defects. Let us think that, just as we suffer because of the faults of others, they also suffer because of ours. We all have an “Achilles’ heel.”

 

Prayer: O Father, teach me not to judge, because I too am imperfect. Help me not to see the bad in others. In Jesus. Amen.

SOLO DIOS ES PERFECTO

Mateo 7:1-5

No juzguéis, para que no seáis juzgados

Mateo 7:1

            La Ilíada es una de las obras maestras de la literatura universal. Es el relato de la guerra de Troya, escrita por Homero. La leyenda afirma que Aquiles era invencible, sólo su talón era vulnerable, pues por sus pies fue sujetado por su madre, la diosa del mar, al sumergirlo en la laguna Estigia. Después de vengar a su  amigo Patroclo en la batalla, es alcanzado por una flecha lanzada por Paris y guiada por el dios Apolo, la cual fue a dar precisamente al talón de Aquiles, produciendo su caída y muerte.

            No es nuestro interés narrar una obra tan grande en unas líneas. Solo señalar que todos tenemos un “talón de Aquiles”. La perfección no es alcanzable. No hay nada más fácil que destacar defectos ajenos sin detenernos a valorar los propios.

            El Sermón del Monte es bien claro al afirmar: Hipócrita, saca primero la viga de tu propio ojo, y entonces verás bien para sacra la paja del ojo de tu hermano. Lamentablemente, no somos perfectos, cometemos faltas y siempre hay rasgos vulnerables en nuestra personalidad y acciones que ponen al descubierto nuestras debilidades y defectos. Pensemos que igual que sufrimos por las faltas de otros, ellos también padecen a causa de las nuestras. Todos tenemos un “talón de Aquiles”

 

Oración: Oh Padre, enséñame a no juzgar, porque yo también soy imperfecto. Ayúdame a no ver lo malo de los demás. Por Jesús, améén.
