All Saints Day

WE DON'T LOSE HOPE

Mark 4:26-34

It is like a mustard seed, which when sown upon the ground, is  the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and the smallest becomes the greatest of all the shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.

Mark 4:31-32a (NRSV)

            Jesus speaks to us about the Kingdom of God. He states that great things and great achievements can come from a small seed. Today we should think of small actions that make a difference, but like the mustard seed that can grow and become a large plant.

            Let’s keep in mind that Jesus told this parable to a group of disciples who were impatient about  the slow results of their work. They wanted action and they wanted it immediately! Jesus reminds them here that the Kingdom of God was not in his hands, and that everything takes time. No doubt something powerful can emerge from small beginnings. So, we must not lose hope when everything around us moves slower than we would like. The Kingdom of God continues to spread in ways we cannot even see. The parable reminds us that God will extend His Kingdom through us, for His glory and honor, even if we appear somewhat insignificant.

            Let us be what God calls us to be. Let us discover the opportunities for service and participation in the mission of the Church. So, let's cheer up.

 

Prayer: Lord, may our faith, our hope and our love be like that grain of mustard. Amen.

Día de Todos los Santos

NO PERDAMOS LA ESPERANZA

Marcos 4:26-34

Es como el grano de mostaza, que cuando se siembra en la tierra, es la más pequeña de todas las semillas que hay en la tierra; pero después de sembrado, crece, y se hace la mayor de todas las hortalizas…

Marcos 4:31-32a

            Jesús nos habla del Reino de Dios. Afirma que de una pequeña semilla pueden surgir grandes cosas y grandes logros. Hoy debemos pensar en pequeñas acciones que marcan la diferencia, pero que como la semilla de mostaza pueden crecer y convertirse en una gran planta.

            Tengamos en cuenta que Jesús contó esta parábola a un grupo de discípulos que estaban impacientes por los lentos resultados de su trabajo. Querían acción ¡y la querían inmediatamente! Jesús les recuerda aquí que el Reino de Dios no estaba en sus manos, sino que todo lleva su tiempo. Sin dudas algo poderoso puede surgir de pequeños comienzos. Así que no debemos perder la esperanza cuando a nuestro alrededor todo se mueve más lento de lo que nos gustaría. El Reino de Dios sigue extendiéndose de maneras que ni siquiera podemos percibir. La parábola nos recuerda que Dios extenderá su Reino a través de nosotros, para su gloria y honra, aunque seamos algo insignificante en apariencia.

            Seamos pues aquello que Dios nos llama a ser, descubramos las oportunidades de servicio y participación en la misión de Iglesia. Así que, animémonos.

 

Oración: Señor, que nuestra fe, nuestra esperanza y nuestro amor sean como ese granito de mostaza. Amén.
