WHEN SIN ABOUNDS

Romans 5:20-6: 2

… but where sin increased, grace increased all the more.

            The scriptures have the objective of revealing to us God’s will for our lives. An important means of doing so is showing us where the problem of human sin resides. Paul debates this aspect in the seventh chapter of the Letter to the Romans by affirming, among other things, that it is through the Law that sin is known, in as much that it presents a very clear set prohibitions. The Law attempts to correct our conduct, but it has shown itself insufficient to make us just before God.

            However, now a higher plane has passed in the believer’s life, when we recognize that what the Law in itself was unable to achieve–that is our justification with God is now made possible with the new life in Christ. Divine grace has overtaken the power and magnitude of the effects of sin. Therefore, following Pauline reasoning, now our lives shouldn’t “persist in sin” but rather the opposite, to be “instruments of justice.”    

            To proclaim and live the grace of God is the constant call of Jesus Christ’s witnesses, his favor for those who love the good and peace.   

 

Prayer: Show us, Lord, your will, through your word and the action of your Spirit so that we may be faithful to the vocation to which you have called us by serving, loving, and walking  in your ways. Amen.

CUANDO EL PECADO ABUNDA

Romanos 5:20-6: 2

… más cuando el pecado abundó, sobreabundó la gracia

            Las Escrituras tienen el propósito de revelarnos la voluntad de Dios para nuestras vidas; un importante modo de hacerlo es señalarnos dónde reside el problema del pecado humano. Pablo debate este aspecto en el cap.7 de la carta a los romanos, al afirmar entre otras cosas que por la Ley es que se conoce el pecado, en cuanto presenta determinadas prohibiciones muy claras. La Ley intenta corregir nuestras conductas pero se ha mostrado insuficiente para hacernos justos delante de Dios.

            Ahora, no obstante, se ha pasado a una etapa superior en la vida del creyente cuando reconocemos que, lo que la Ley en sí misma no podía lograr, esto es, nuestra justificación con Dios, se hace posible por la nueva vida en Cristo, la gracia divina ha sobrepasado el poder y la magnitud de los efectos del pecado. Por tanto, siguiendo el razonamiento paulino, ahora nuestras vidas no deben “perseverar en el pecado” sino al contrario, ser “instrumentos de justicia”.

            Ese es el constante llamado como testigos de Jesucristo, proclamar y vivir la gracia de Dios, su favor por aquellos que aman el bien y la paz.

 

Oración: Muéstranos Señor tu voluntad, a través de tu Palabra y la acción de tu Espíritu, para que podamos ser fieles a la vocación a la cual nos has llamado, sirviendo, amando y andando en tus caminos. Amén.
